Returning starter Patrick Lawrence is looking to solidify his legacy on the offensive line during his senior season.

In the 2017 season, Lawrence started 11 of 12 games at right tackle before moving inside to right guard for the last game. These 12 starts added to his career total to equal 25 career starts and 25 straight starts. Lawrence’s total of 38 career games played ties for second on the team with fellow offensive lineman Blake Blackmar.

During his sophomore season, Lawrence started all 13 games at right tackle. He was one of only six players to start all 12 regular season games and one of three players on the offense. Lawrence racked up a career-high four knockdowns at Iowa State and held a career-high 92 percent coaches grade and three knockdowns in season-opener vs. Northwestern State. Lawrence, along with Blackmar, was also a member of the O-Line unit that helped Baylor snag the Big 12’s top rushing offense and #3 offense overall.

As a redshirt freshman, Lawrence played all 13 games as a reserve lineman and on special teams.

Coming out of Waxahachie High School, Lawrence was rated the nations 41st best tackle prospect by Scout and 66th by ESPN.

As far as Lawrence is concerned, this upcoming season is going to be a major improvement as long as all the pieces come together on the field.

“We’re not gonna be a 1-11 team next year,” said Lawrence in a post spring practice presser. “We have the talent. Now we have more depth…and another great senior class.”

As a member of that “great senior class,” Lawrence seems eager to get back out on the field to show the progression that the team has experienced during the offseason.

“As a team, we’ve grown and I don’t expect to see the same results as last year.”

Lawrence is from Waxahachie, Texas and is majoring in Supply Chain Management.

Antonia’s Thoughts: I will be looking to the duo of Blackmar and Lawrence to be the leaders on the offensive line this fall. With Lawrence’s shift to the inside, at least for the last game last season, I am interested to see where he finds success this season.

Lawrence is one of those players that does well as a guard or tackle, which is favorable for multiple reasons, including being flexible in placement. I believe Lawrence’s placement will rely on where the other members of the offensive line find themselves. Coach Rhule’s disinclination for depth charts leads me to believe that Lawrence might end up in both positions before the season is out. It’s all about interchanging players in order to find the right combination and I think Lawrence can find his place.
