Baylor got a quick start on defense as the Bears forced a three and out with 2.0 tackles for loss by sophomore defensive lineman James Lynch. The offense took over and sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer led the Bears down the field to a touchdown drive, capped by touchdown reception from junior running back JaMycal Hasty. On UTSA's next offensive possession, Baylor senior cornerback Derrek Thomas picked off a pass on the first attempt of the drive.
