Bears fall in emotional road contest against Iowa State
AMES, Iowa — The Baylor Bears were in search of bowl eligibility faced the Iowa State Cyclones on a cold Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa.
First Quarter
The two teams traded lengthy drives in the first quarter, but the Cyclones were able to capitalize on theirs to grab the early lead. Charlie Brewer and the Bears went on a 12 play drive, but a holding penalty and a sack forced a Baylor punt after reaching the ISU 13-yard line. Brock Purdy then led ISU on a 12-play drive that ended in a touchdown on a third-down pass attempt from the 11.
Highlights
Jalen Hurd's 17-yard run gave the Bears a first down at the Iowa State 15, but the Bears were unable to take advantage. The Baylor defense also forced a fumble on the first play of the ISU drive, but once again were unable to take advantage as the Cyclones recovered.

Second Quarter
It was more of the same for Baylor in second quarter offensively. In their one possession, the offense sustained a drive of 12 plays for 66 yards. However, another missed field goal by Connor Martin kept the Bears off the scoreboard. Iowa State's two possessions resulted in 10 points including a field goal in the closing seconds of the half.
Highlights
Brewer completed 5-of-8 passes for 59 yards in the second quarter, but missed a third down conversion attempt to Marques Jones. Originally called a catch, the Bears scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak, but the replay official stopped the play before it started.

Third Quarter
Baylor held Iowa State to a punt and field goal on their first two drives of the third quarter while the Bears scored their first touchdown on another long drive. Brewer found junior Denzel Mims to cap off a 15 play, 92-yard drive that took up 7:36. Iowa State followed the score up with another of their own.
Highlights
After a personal foul on Baylor's Chris Miller, Iowa State running back David Montgomery and Baylor defensive end Gregg Roberts were kicked out of the game for throwing punches a play later. In the quarter Brewer completed 7-of-9 passes for 76 yards.

Fourth Quarter
On a drive that carried over from the end of the third quarter into the fourth, Baylor found their way to the endzone on a Brewer to Pooh Stricklin touchdown to cut the lead to 14. Baylor's defenes then force Iowa State to punt, but Baylor's final two possessions of the game came up empty despite 124 yards of offense.
Highlights
After a what appeared to be a first-down run by Brewer on second down, the spot of the run by the official was short. Brewer questioned the spot of the ball and the official threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct on Brewer. Because of an incident ealier in the game, Brewer was ejected from the game.
