A rivalry, two good conference matchups, and three teams on bye highlight the fourth week in the Big 12.

Week 1Week 2 | Week 3

Week 4

SMU 21, TCU 40 (Fort Worth)

Not only is this a rivalry game but the Mustangs will bring in Texas graduate transfer quarterback Shane Buechele to Fort Worth. This makes the matchup even more interesting but the TCU defense is not nice to the former Big 12 performer. Ross Blacklock and Shameik Blackshear get to the quarterback three times and force a fumble as well. Darius Anderson breaks two long touchdown runs and Olonilua adds another as the veteran TCU offensive line breaks the Mustangs down in the 2nd half.

Oklahoma State 27, Texas 38 (Austin)

A big conference matchup early in the season is between two teams that had a classic matchup year ago. This one won’t be quite as thrilling. Spencer Sanders has had a very good season up to this point but in this one he struggles. Caden Sterns and Anthony Cook both intercept the freshman and he is sacked four times all in the first half. The Longhorns build up a double digit lead ay half thanks to two touchdown catches by Collin Johnson from Sam Ehlingher. Sanders settles down in the second half and leads a couple scoring drives on a touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace and a rushing touchdown by Chubba Hubbard. But in the fourth quarter the Texas defense holds up and the Longhorns add a couple Keaontay Ingram touchdowns to pull away late.

UL-Monroe 13, Iowa State 41 (Ames)

The Cyclones are trying to keep their early-season momentum going as the Warhawks come into town. This one stays close in the first quarter as UL-Monroe gets an early touchdown but from that point on the Iowa State defense takes over. The Warhawks turn it over three times and only have 275 total yards of offense. Brock Purdy and the Cyclones offense take over the game because of it. Purdy hits Tarique Milton and Charlie Kolar for touchdowns. Kene Nwangwu and Breece Hall both run in a touchdown as well. The Cyclones get an easy win.

West Virginia 37, Kansas 30 (Lawrence)

The Jayhawks and Mountaineers are both coming off very tough losses so both will be looking to rebound. The quarterback carousel continues for Kansas as Thomas MacVittie gets the start. This game starts off slow as both offenses settle for early field goals. Austin Kendall gets the touchdowns started as he hits TJ Simmons for a 60-yard touchdown and the flood gates open. The KU running back duo of Pooka Williams and Dom Williams gashes the Mountaineers for 200 total yards and three touchdowns. West Virginia’s duo of Kennedy McKoy and Martell Pettaway match them with three touchdowns of their own. The difference is quarterback play and Kendall gives the Mountaineers 250 yards and two touchdowns to lead West Virginia to a big road win.

Baylor 44, Rice 13 (Houston)

Baylor travels to Houston to take on the Rice Owls to complete the non-conference schedule. This is great news for the Bears offense as Rice gave up 40+ points seven times last season. This one will get out of hand quickly as Charlie Brewer leads three scoring drives in the first quarter which includes a touchdown pass to Denzel Mims and Josh Fleeks. The trend continues in the 2nd quarter as Ja’Mycal Hasty and Craig Williams both add a rushing touchdown. The Bears defense feasts on an offense that only scored 20 points seven times a year ago. Niadre Zouzoua leads the defense with two sacks and the safety duo of JT Woods and Christian Morgan each add an interception. This one is over at half and Baylor is able to get Gerry Bohannon and Jacob Zeno some quality reps along with a lot of the younger players on this team.
