New Baylor assistant Jorge Munoz was the 'MVP' of LSU's offensive room
As reported by SicEm365 on Wednesday morning, multiple reports are confirming that LSU offensive analyst Jorge Munoz will join Dave Aranda’s staff at Baylor and will coach the wide receivers. The information was made public first by Bruce Feldman on Thursday morning.
Prior to his two-year stint at LSU, Munoz spent 10 years at Louisiana as an offensive assistant including titles of pass game coordinator and offensive coordinator while coaching quarterbacks and receivers during his time in Lafayette.
Munoz was given considerable amount of credit for the development of LSU’s Joe Burrow, the record-setting quarterback and 2019 Heisman winner. Munoz was invited by Burrow and attended the Heisman ceremony. Burrow gave credit to Munoz during his speech after receiving the award.
At LSU, Munoz specialized in blitz pickups, something Baylor has struggled with greatly each of the last three seasons. In an article by The Advocate, LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger described Munoz’s role with the team.
“While we’re game-planning on Monday and Tuesday and setting up our first- and second-down game plan, Jorge is kind of setting up our blitz package on first and second down that we can send to Joe (Burrow),” Ensminger said. “On Tuesday, he’ll put together our third-down blitz package to present to Joe. The stuff he stays ahead of for me and Brady is outstanding.”
“He’s the MVP in my room,” Ensminger said of Munoz.
Burrow added on to the praise.
“He’s meant so much to me,” Burrow said. “He helps me get those third-down blitzes picked up every week. So many teams have super-exotic packages, and he narrows it down to one, two, three things that my eyes have to look at so I can get these blitzes picked up. That’s a big reason why we’re one of the top third-down teams in the country.”
The addition of Munoz of Aranda’s staff is a huge one to say the least.
