Baylor on Wednesday received a commitment from Kyron Drones, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback who led Shadow Creek High School in Pearland to the Class 5A state title last season.

A member of the 2021 class, Drones chose the Bears over offers from 25 diffferent schools. That group includes Auburn, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Pitt, TCU and Vanderbilt, among others.
Drones has been one of the biggest risers in the state in recent months, as 22 of his offers have come since mid-January. He has gone from unranked to a near four-star prospect in a matter of four months.
Baylor offered just over a week ago, on April 20th, and it was a talk with Baylor offensive coordinator Larry Fedora that made the biggest impression.
“He told me how he usually doesn’t offer til he sees a quarterback throw in person,” Drones said, “but he couldn’t do that with me. He said he’s seen enough on tape and talked to my coaches enough to offer me.”
As a junior Drones led Shadow Creek to a 5A state title and was named Offensive MVP of the championship game. On the season he finished with 3,402 yards, 46 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 56% of his passes. He also ran for 825 yards and 18 touchdowns.
One of his key weapons was receiver Seth Jones, a 2020 Baylor signee. The two have a strong relationship, so the opportunity to play together at the next level is “really exciting”, Drones said.
