Baylor had its greatest decade of overall athletic performance ever from 2010-2019 including a stretch of football success that it had never seen on the football field prior.

Nine bowl game appearances, three New Year’s Day Six or BCS bowl appearances, two conference championships, five double-digit win seasons, a Heisman Trophy Winner, a Biletnikoff Award winner and six consensus All-Americans highlighted the stretch of 10 seasons where the Bears collected a total of 83 wins.

But where does that rank among the other top programs during the stretch? Bill Bender of SportingNews.com put together a strategy to rank the top 25 programs of the previous decade by assigning numerical values for team success as well as the single most valuable individual award, the Heisman Trophy.

National championships: 10 points each
National title game appearances: 5 points each
College Football Playoff appearances: 5 points each
New Year's Day Six/BCS bowl appearances: 3 points each
Heisman Trophy winners: 2 points each

**Ties were broken by overall record over the previous decade.

Charlie Brewer helped lead Baylor to their third 11-win season of the decade in 2019.

Baylor (83-47) finished tied for No. 22 on Bender’s list with a total of 11 points. The total was made up of three trips to New Year’s Day Six/BCS bowls (9) and for Robert Griffin III’s Heisman Trophy (2).

Baylor finished No. 3 in the Big 12 on the list falling behind No. 4 Oklahoma (76) and No. 16 Oklahoma State (14) and ahead of No. 25 Texas (8).

No. 21 Penn State (87-42) and No. 23 Miami (75-53) each finished with 11 points as well while No. 20 Texas A&M (84-46) finished with a 11.5 points to finish just ahead of the tie.

Looks like a typical top 25 listing of any year 5 games into the season.

Tied for 21st not 22nd

(Bet Baylor is the only team on the list that had a stretch of 2-17)

I bet you are right.

UCF did mix in a 0-12 season in the last decade.

Baylor is also probably the only team that had a 3 year record of 15-23 that included 2 bowl wins.

How does A$M have 11.5 points? Based on the scoring, how does a team earn 0.5 points?
