Baylor selected fifth in the 2020 Big 12 Media Preseason Poll

After finishing the 2019 Big 12 season with an overtime loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game, the 2020 Baylor Bears have been slotted No. 5 in the conference preseason by the media.

The Bears, who saw former head coach Matt Rhule head to the NFL with the majority of the coaching staff while also losing the majority of their starters on defense, return three-year starting quarterback Charlie Brewer and a plethora of offensive playmakers under the direction of new head coach Dave Aranda.

Defensively Baylor will be led by Preseason All-Big 12 linebacker Terrel Bernard. Bernard is one of two Bears who received consistent starts for the Bears defensively joining senior cornerback Raleigh Texada.

Oklahoma was chosen to finish first for the fifth consecutive year in the Big 12 football preseason poll, voted on by media representatives. This year marks the eighth since 2011 in which the Sooners topped the preseason rankings. They have captured a Big 12-record 13 league titles, including the last five.

OU garnered 80 of the 90 first-place selections while Oklahoma State was picked second with six first-place votes and Texas was third with four first-place nods. Iowa State and Baylor rounded out the top five.

TCU was selected sixth followed by Kansas State, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Kansas. The top two finishers in the league standings will compete in the Big 12 Football Championship Game to determine the Conference title. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 5 in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

I hate saying this but TCU is finishing higher then 6th. WV and Tech should be improved too! Okie St will win the conference if there's a season

Year in, year out there is no more overrated and underwhelming team than Iowa St. They'll limp to a .500 season, at best.

My (more realistic) preseason poll has Baylor tied for the BIGXII Conference championship:

1. Baylor 0 - 0
1. Oklahoma 0 - 0
1. Oklahoma State 0 - 0
1. Iowa State 0 - 0
1. Kansas State 0 - 0
1. West Virginia 0 - 0
1. Texas Tech 0 - 0
1. Kansas 0 - 0
9. TCU 0 - 0
10. Texas 0 - 0

Not sure if that was a shot at me since I'm an ISU grad but it's hard to be overrated when you never have expectations to meet

Every team gets a participation trophy in 2020. There won't be a season played & liberal Chinese virus will win out. No one gets to take a knee to disrespect our national anthem either.

No shot at you. Didn't even know you were an Iowa St. grad. Just feel like the KC media has made Iowa St. their "darling" every year in these polls since KU sucks so much and KState hasn't been that great. KC media has a history of despising the Big 12 South schools, particularly any of those related to the state of Texas. So they tend to "herd vote" for the KU, KState, Iowa St. trifecta in all sports.

Fair point. ISU is going to be solid this year. I guarantee they have a winning record. But that can be said about a lot of schools in the Big 12 because there's no Alpha aside from OU

Wasn't Baylor ranked 5th or 6th in the pre-season polls last year?
Who wound up playing for the Big 12 Championship?

Again, everyone is undefeated in July and August.
Play it out on the field. All questions will be answered.

I'm still hoping we will have games this Fall and I will be able to attend. Right now it's probably not even a 50-50 chance that this will happen.

I think the biggest reason for me that I have Iowa State finishing 1 spot above us at 4th in the conference is simply because of Brock Purdy. I think he's probably the best returning qb in the conference (at the moment - want to see what Brewer does in this new offense and how Ehlinger's senior season goes). As we saw with LSU last year, Oklahoma every year, and as we've seen in our own history, quarterback play just elevates your team so much. I think Brock Purdy is good enough to lift a barely .500 team to 8-9 wins, especially in our conference where qb play is maybe more vital than in some of the others.

But that's just my two cents. I hope you're right. Can't stand ISU fans, for the most part.

At best, I'm guessing the season gets delayed if it's played at all. Too much of the traditional football season normally happens before the November election day date and politics is what's driving most of the Covid hysteria, especially from the media's standpoint.

Unfortunately, that's probably correct.

So all of those full ICUs in Houston and Dallas are just a media hoax?
