BREAKING: Baylor adds UCLA OL grad transfer Jake Burton

On Tuesday evening Baylor added a commitment from UCLA offensive line transfer Jake Burton (6-6, 313) who was set to play his redshirt senior season for UCLA in 2020. Burton entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.

As a graduate, Burton will be eligible to play for Baylor immediately in 2020. Burton’s decision comes following the PAC-12’s decision to postpone the 2020 fall season with hopes of playing in the spring. 

Burton started all 12 games for UCLA in the 2019 season as a junior and 11 of 12 games in 2018 as a sophomore.

The news of Burton’s commitment is big news for Baylor who has been in search of an offensive line addition throughout the offseason under new head coach Dave Aranda.

And if he is good he probably won't be sticking around for a 6th year of college.

Having started over 20 games the last two seasons for UCLA, I put my money on good.

All he needs to be able to do is pick up our schemes and system. He will be on the field when time to play.

Me like it. Given the other transfers we are getting on Defense, too, it bodes well for areas where we needed shoring up. Hope he adjusts well and kicks our opponents butts this fall.

The fact he is a two year starter indicates he's talented enough to at the least provide quality depth. I wish he was all PAC 12 or had similar credentials as UCLA football has been hovering near Kansas level of late. But hey, never turn down a gift horse.

Burton said as much in his statement about leaving UCLA. He was probably their best NFL prospect and best player. Massive pickup for us, and a guy who will only be here a year if all goes to plan.

This is fantastic! Supposedly Rhule had a system. Or maybe half the coaches figured they were leaving last year. Our new coaches sure are on top of recruiting, not just HS but a couple of high profile grad transfers to fill much needed positions.
