Kickoff for Baylor's season opener with Lousiana Tech set

Baylor and Louisiana Tech will kick off the 2020 season at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. in a game that aired nationally on FOX for the networks “Big Noon Kickoff”. The news was released on Tuesday morning by the Big 12 Conference.

Baylor was originally set to open the season against Ole Miss on Sept. 6, but with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing alteration to the schedules for all conferences—including the postponement of the season by the Big Ten and PAC 12— the SEC canceled all non-conference games and the Big 12 moved to a nine game conference schedule with a single non-conference game.  

A non-conference game against Incarnate Word was also dropped by Baylor.

Part of Conference USA, Louisiana Tech posted a 10-3 record in 2019 with a win over Miami in the Independence Bowl, 14-0. Common opponents with Baylor last fall were Texas, a game in which the Bulldogs lost 45-14, and Rice, a game that the Bulldogs won 23-20 in overtime. 

Under the direction of Skip Holtz, Louisiana Tech has posted a 56-36 record including four nine win seasons and a 10-win season last fall. The Bulldogs have played in six consecutive bowl games and have won all six contests. 

Baylor is coming off an appearance in the 2019 Big 12 Championship game and a trip to the Sugar Bowl. The Bears finished the season 11-3 in the final year under Matt Rhule. From 2010-2019 Baylor reached postseason play nine times, won two Big 12 Championships and posted double-digit victories five times.
