Two VERY good coaches; two VERY tough competitors; UT's one win in Waco bought them what they thought might be bragging rights, and had they won last night, maybe the beginning of something different.

Can't for the life of me figure out why UT pulled Holms out to the top of the key to be the inlet passER instead of the recipient of the inlet passes.

She did seem pretty gassed. Maybe she and Asten just decided her best bet was to try to draw our rebounders OUTside.

She's as capable of pounding the paint and drawing fouls as we are. Something strange in that coaching decision to have her abandon the paint on the offensive end the last 7 minutes.

Edit: I haven't read this whole thread to know what the posters immediately below mine are talking about. I will, but not until later tonight.

A comment was made "there must only be four people" on this chain. Well, I read it occasionally, and to be honest the harsh remarks directed at our girls were infuriating. Remarks about the individual players, for example comparing Cox to one of the Horns...are inappropriate. You folks probably do not see the whole schedule of games and understand that on some nights they are not at their best. Regarding Cox, she is fantastic and the whole of her game has been one of giant strides since the start of the season. She is also a Type 1 diabetic, and has had to change her daily routine to accommodate it. Re Wallace...yeah, we have only won 25 games with her at point. Any other brilliant observations? Y'alls comments reminded me of what one may see in Philadelphia, or Norman, or...even Austin. Jones has had a bad knee for a while, and she will be back. So yes, the participation on this chain was limited. Earlier this month some of you were also pontificating about how the "Dream Team" regularly beat the girls...not from what I saw or heard. How about you guys try it! So rather than play in your pile of vitriol, I just ignore you...except for this rant. Y'all go ahead now and throw rocks at the MBB team...if it makes you feel better. The Sheriff is still in town!

Well said airforcebear. I went back and read the thread and we have some absurd posts. I swear some of these posters don't even know what a woman is, much less a basketball.

Cox is going to be really good. Her top of the key jumper is awesome.

That game was exhausting as a fan; can't imagine the toll it took on players and staff! Here's hoping for a quick recovery and a large dose of getting our swagger back! Any news on Jones' injury?

A brief history lesson regarding the Mulkey/Aston relationship. Soured the first year of Aston's Head Coach gig in Whornville when we were pounding them in the fourth quarter. Mulkey had helped Aston when she left the brief stint in Waco as an asst and even had recommended her to UT.

First year of Aston's head gig in Austin, Aston was getting schooled, by both Mulkey and by the imbalance of talent on the two benches. In the fourth quarter Mulkey started pulling starters to let the bench get some minutes and to have mercy.. Aston had already started pulling hers. The towel had been thrown in.

Late in the fourth, we're playing out the game with bottom of the bench and Aston puts her starters back in trying to make a run vs. our bottom 5 --in a gasping attempt to make a game out of it--or at least not to get such an obviously overmatched defeat.

The coaching fraternity has a code of conduct. When you're getting your butt kicked and the coach who's kicking your but pulls her whole top rotation, and you've thrown in the towel, you don't grab the towel back off the mat and put your first teamers in just to try to cover backside of embarassment. You let the second teamers play out the 20 point imbalance in the final minutes. You shake hands, and come back to play another day.

Aston violated the code and put her full starting five back on the court vs. our bottom five in an unwinnable game--yet hoping for a miracle. It wasn't an attempt to punish her starters; Aston actually thought she might could make a run at a tolerable score/showing. and, the iinevitable happened. UT's starting 5 started a slight comeback vs. our bench players when the game was WAY out of reach and out of time.

KMulkey took it personally and put her starting five back in. Aston played the "Mulkey's running up the score with her starters coming back in" card, when in reality, Mulkey would have been just as content with a 2 point victory as a 20 point victory with starters on bench. But, when Aston put her starters back in vs. our #8-#13 subs, . . .

Game on . . . and it's STILL on.

That's MY theory and I'm sticking with it!

I agree with you Steve. A couple of more facts as I recall the story:

Aston put her starters back in AND started a full court press on our subs.

Kim looked down at Aston with a look like "really".

Kim believes in the code and praises coaches who play by it. She also probably this as a slight by someone who does not have the hardware that Kim has in WBB.

I had forgotten the "full court press" issue, but that does ring true about how egregious the fraternal faux paux was that Astin made.
