#2 Baylor (17-0; 9-0) uses a couple of big second half runs to bury the #6 Texas Longhorns (11-4; 5-3) in Austin. The Bears were led by Davion Mitchell's 27 points and 11-21 from 3 point range. Baylor now has a 3 game margin in the loss column in their hunt for a Big12 title.
Tristan Wilson and Ashley Hodge break down the performance in the postgame podcast.
Outstanding
- Composure, Baylor never lost its composure. Took care of the basketball (only 12 turnovers); went toe to toe on the glass (27-26 Texas) and answered every Texas run with a big run.
- Plenty of praise to go around but Davion Mitchell played a near flawless game with 27 points, 4 assists, 1 turnover and his normal incredible defense.
- Baylor’s bench outscores Texas 17-4 and a 10-5 advantage on the glass.
- Free throw defense (3-14). ELITE!!
- Officiating, despite the lack of free throws for Baylor, the officials let the players decide the game and that is all you can ask for.
- Butler, Teague and Vital locked in during crunch time.
Needs Improvement
- Finishing in the paint, got some easy looks in transition and at the end of the game but our guys struggled to convert a lot of the game inside
- Interior defense has its struggles, plenty of opportunity to improve in that area
- Get better at drawing contact to get to the foul line. The game would be easier if we could get more than 4 free throw attempts but I’m grasping for things to complain about.
Time to go watch Shaka’s presser! 2-10
