The No. 3 Baylor men’s basketball team (21-1, 13-1) capped off its regular season with a 88-73 win at home against Texas Tech (17-9, 9-8) to finish the year undefeated in the Ferrell Center.
MaCio Teague — ever heard of him? Yeah, well he’s the new leader for three-pointers made in a Big 12 game by a Baylor Bear with 10. He also tied the single-game record for threes made by anyone in a Green and Gold uniform.
The senior made the most of his final game in Waco with an unconscious performance scoring the basketball. Teague’s career-high 10 three-pointers were on a stupid 10-12 clip from outside as he cruised to a wild 35 points. It was unbelievable.
Moreover, the Bears as a whole shot 65% behind the arc at 15-23, outrebounded the Red Raiders 36-26 and notched a 19-13 advantage in assists.
As for the first half, Baylor started the game by hitting up arrow, down arrow, up arrow, left arrow and B-button to unlock a secret Mortal Kombat boost that hadn’t been used since Tuesday in Morgantown. The Bears opened up on a 10-0 run and would lead 16-3 before Texas Tech finally stepped off the bus.
That said, Baylor is mortal and cascaded down to earth as the Red Raiders got hot from deep. Tech would go on to outscore the Bears 29-18 past the 13:30 mark to only trail 34-32 at the half. That was mostly thanks to Kyler Edwards for the Red Raiders who had 13 points on 3-4 from deep to combat Baylor’s 5-7 mark from deep as a team.
Starting in the second half, my Apple Watch broke again. And while last time it was stuck on Matthew Mayer time, this time it wouldn’t stop calling Teague. He kept answering. Teague exploded with a quick 15 points before the midway point to give Baylor a 57-44 lead.
It was a scoring explosion.
The Bears used Teague’s hot shooting and clutch passing from Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell to push Texas Tech to its breaking point. Hitting shot after shot, the Bears cruised to the 88-73 blowout victory.
The trifecta of Teague, Butler and Mitchell scored 70 combined — Texas Tech scored 73 total.
The quadfecta of Teague, Butler, Mitchell and Mark Patterson scored 71 combined — Texas Tech scored 73 total.
That’s all you need to know.
See you in Kansas City. This team is three games away from sweeping the league titles headed into Indianapolis.
