Texas HS Football legend G.J. Kinne talks Baylor's hire of Bob Bicknell

Similar to recruiting a high school football prospect, the hiring of an assistant coach might not always be naming the fiery-hot prospect on the list. It takes a little deeper of a dig to find out why a prospective candidate is excellent.

That's why Matt Rhule's list of impressive hires continues to mount up.

Former NFL player G.J. Kinne spent three seasons in Philadelphia with the Eagles from 2013-2015. Those three seasons happened to be the same three as new Baylor wide receiver coach Bob Bicknell.

The former Texas High School Football blue-chip quarterback prospect who tossed for 11,695 passing yards and 130 touchdown passes during his high school career is also quite familiar with Baylor.

But if you came to work everyday with a great attitude and were a team first guy, Bick would do anything for you. - GJ Kinne, former Philadelphia Eagle
His father, Gary Joe Kinne, ranks as the eighth-leading tackler in school history with 323 stops, while his younger sister is a freshman at the University. Not to mention that Kinne was committed to the Big 12 program at one time during his senior season.

Needless to say, his ability to relate the hire of Bicknell to Baylor was pretty easy.

"He's great, hilarious," Kinne told SicEm365. "Coaching family. Likes guys that are going to work hard, do the right things.

Baylor recently lost co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Matt Lubick to the same position at Washington, so finding a replacement for the former Oregon OC with someone familiar with Matt Rhule's plans for his offense in Waco was a must.

Rhule went after former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly's key assistants, exactly how Kinne classified Bicknell.

"(Bicknell) was kind of Chip (Kelly's) right-hand man in a lot of situations," Kinne said.

Bicknell, according to Kinne, will be extremely familiar with the details of the scheme which Baylor plans to base it's offense around under Rhule.

"Oh yeah, he will know all the ins and outs," Kinne said. "He turned down the (San Francisco 49ers) OC job after Chip's first year in the league."

With the transition from the NFL to the NCAA, a big concern will be the difference in the players which he is coaching. Bicknell coached five seasons at Boston University from 1993-1997 and spent a single season at Temple in 2006.

"Like all coaches, I think some loved him, some might not have," Kinne said. "But if you came to work everyday with a great attitude and were a team first guy, Bick would do anything for you."

Finding and developing a relationship with Baylor's current players and prospects across the country won't be an issue for Bicknell.

"Like I said, he's hilarious. He's dealt with all the personalities in an NFL receiver room for a long time... recruiting and relating to players will be a walk in the park for him."
