#1 Seed Baylor (25-2) knocks out #5 Seed Villanova (18-7) with suffocating defense in the second half holding the Wildcats to 21 points after intermission. The Bears face the winner of ORU and Arkansas Monday night in Scott Drew's 3rd Elite 8 match-up
Positives
- Beat the team that has won 2 of the last 4 national championships after they were down 7 at half.
- Defense was incredible in the second half and really for the game as a whole holding Villanova to 0.89 points per possession
- Davion Mitchell, Jared Butler, Adam Flagler and Matthew Mayer made some big second half buckets to build a lead late in the contest.
- 22-4 points off turnovers advantage for the Bears. Villanova had only turned the ball over 10 times in the first two games and racked up 16 turnovers in this one.
- Adam Flagler salting the game away with 6-6 from the foul line
- Only 6 turnovers for the Bears- outstanding
- We won ugly. Survive and advance baby!
Needs Work
- Missed a lot of open 3s, Butler 1-9; Mitchell 0-3; Mayer 0-3. Maybe our defense is good enough to win games shooting that poorly but you don’t want to count on it.
- Butler missing all his free throws (0-3) including a front end. Need a bounce back performance offensively.
- How many point blank shots did we miss in the first half? Cold shooting nights happen, we have to be better finishing around the rim.
