Ish Wainwright & Jake Lindsey — 7:29-End

Scott Drew

On the pressure of getting a better seed for the NCAA tournament
“Seeding is a day-by-day thing. So, we win the Big 12 tournament, there’s a chance you move up. The right people lose, maybe you go to a one- definitely stay a two. If you lose up there early or win, might drop two, a three. So much depends on other people. We’re just gonna control what we can control.”

On getting Manu Lecomte back to speed
“If he’s healthy, he’s playing. The question is, if he’s not healthy or if we’re putting him at risk, then we wouldn’t play him. This week, we’ll have a much better indication after a couple of practices. . . .I follow the instructions of David Chandler. If he says ‘no contact,’ it’s no contact.”

On the danger of K-State being a bubble team
“Everyone’s a dangerous team but they would be the team that is most talked about right now being on the bubble. So first of all, they’re playing in front of all their fans. Second of all, they’re playing for what some people say is a tournament berth and we’ve had two good games with them already, so we know they’ll be motivated.”

On Ish Wainright’s importance as the seasoned leader
“His experience translates to the players ‘cause when he says something, they know he’s been there, done that. But he always presents things and says things in a way that’s taken that right way.”

On the mentality going into tournament games compared to the regular season
“You don’t get a mulligan. You don’t get a do-over. You lose in the tournament, you’re out- you go home. You lose in the regular season, you got the next game. So there’s just more pressure.”

Ish Wainwright

On the feeling going into his last Big 12 tournament
“I’m not gonna try to look at it as being my last time there because I know I might get a little bit emotional. But I promised the guys that I’m gonna play my all, every minute I’m out there on the court, even if I’m not out there on the court, I’m still giving my all.”

On the pressure added by fans’ hopes for the team
“It’s exciting because we could be the first team to actually do a lot of stuff here at Baylor. Like we could be the first team to win a Big 12 tournament. . . .We have team. We have the chemistry. We have the bond and got the coaching staff and we have the fans that can actually get it done.”

Jake Lindsey

On the challenge K-State provides
“They kicked the tar out of us the last time in the first half. We didn’t do a good job coming out with energy. You know, on your home floor, that’s really unacceptable. Obviously, five starters that averaged close to double figures, they’re tremendously balanced. Coach Weber does a great job. Defensively they do a great job protecting the paint, protecting the two. They’re really physical, so we have to respond and make sure we set a tone.”

On the experience built from subbing in for Lecomte
“It’s a nice experience to have. I’ve been in a lot of situations this year, played in different scenarios when we needed different roles. . . .Sometimes we run our offense through different people and last game we had a matchup and we felt we had something we could exploit and that was me using ball screens and finding Mot. And that’s really all I had to do. It wasn’t any sort of confidence thing, I’m pretty confident most of the time.”
