April 13, 2021

HUMBLE, Texas – Baylor women’s golf shattered its school-record with a first-round score of 23-under-par 265, and the Bears padded their lead with a 5-under-par 283 in the second round Monday at the Lone Star Invitational at Golf Club of Houston.

No. 14 Baylor (-28) built a 21-shot lead after shooting 265 in the first round, which was eight strokes better than the previous school-record team score, and the Bears extended the lead to 26 scores at the end of the day. BU leads SMU (-2), Texas State (E), BYU (+12), Kansas (+17) and Tulane (+23).

All six Baylor golfers are among the top-10 individually in the 39-player field. Hannah Karg leads the Bears and is in second place overall with a 36-hole total of 8-under-par 136. She tied the school record with a first-round 7-under 65, firing eight birdies, including each of her last two holes, and she carded 1-under 71 in the afternoon. She’s three shots back of the individual lead heading to Tuesday’s final round.

Britta Snyder is tied for fourth place at 4-under 140 after matching rounds of 2-under 70. Gurleen Kaur is in seventh place at 3-under 141 following rounds of 6-under 66 and 3-over 75. Elodie Chapelet, Rosie Belsham and Nina Lang are all tied for eighth place at 2-under 142. Chapelet and Belsham both shot 5-under 67 in the first round and 3-over 75 in the second, while Lang reversed those scores with a 5-under 67 in the afternoon following a 3-over 75 in the morning.

265 – Baylor’s 265 was eight strokes better than the previous school-record round of 273. BU had carded 273 three times previously, most recently in the 2020 Schooner Fall Classic. The 23-under score was eight shots better than the previous best team score to par, besting the 15-under 273 in the first round of the 2016 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

65 – Hannah Karg tied a school record with her first round score of 7-under 65. She joined Britta Snyder, Elodie Chapelet, Gurleen kaur, Fiona Liddell, Laura Londardi, Hayley Davis, Lene Hafsten-Morch and Jaclyn Jansen as Baylor golfers to post a 65. Karg, Chapelet, Kaur, Davis, Lonardi, Hafsten-Morch and Jansen are the only BU golfers to post 7-under in a round.

Tuesday’s final round is an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. Baylor players will begin on the second and third holes, with Kaur, Chapelet and Karg beginning on No. 2 and Snyder, Belsham and Lang beginning on No. 3. The 2021 Big 12 Championship is April 18-20 at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
