The Bears historically have had better luck in non-conference and post-season.  If you only focus on top 100 opponents, the Bears are 36-9 in non-conference or post-season the last 6 years.   Against top 100 opponents in the Big12, the Bears are 51-51 over that same period.  One theory is that the zone is a lot more effective the first go around.  Those stats would certainly bear that out.
