Hired by Baylor heading into the 2015 season, McGuyre has been at the helm of the Baylor program for eight years now. He has led them to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including four Sweet 16s and a Final Four appearance while never losing in the first round. In 2019 McGuyre also guided the Bears to their first Big 12 title.
Prior to arriving in Waco, McGuyre spent a decade as head coach at Cal Baptist (2002-11), and the previous three years at Biola. In between CBU and Baylor, McGuyre was an Associate head coach at Florida State and an assistant at Maryland before that. At CBU, he was the head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs, and he crafted a men’s program that won six NAIA national championships (2004, ’05, ’06, ’07, ’10, ’11) and three women’s national titles (2004, ’05, ’11). McGuyre has helped produce many All-Americans at his different stops and earned multiple coach of the year honors at every level.
Another January 2022 addition to the Baylor Volleyball staff, this Virginia Beach, Va. native brings a wealth of experience as a coach and player to the program. He is coming off of seven season as an assistant coach at Hawaii with their men’s team, where he won the 2019 AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year. He also played for Hawaii from 2006 to 2011, being names an All-American once and All-Conference twice. He also played professionally in Europe and Abu Dhabi from 2011 to 2015.
Heading into the 2023 season, Walker was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
Jorge Peñate joined Baylor Volleyball in July of 2023 as an assistant coach. Previously, Peñate served as the Director of Operations & Analytics with Houston volleyball. Prior to his time with the Cougars, Peñate was the Technical Coordinator for Cal volleyball in Berkeley. He spent a year as the volunteer assistant for the Saint Mary's College women's volleyball team as well in 2017-18. Peñate has been active with the USA Volleyball National High Performance department since 2012. Peñate also has a wealth of high school and club level experience.
Joining the Baylor Volleyball staff in February of 2023, McDonald is responsible for team statistics and for assisting with scouting reports as the Bears’ Technical Coordinator. He has spent time in the same role at Georgia Tech and has a previous decade of experience with England's national teams, Oxford University, and various club teams in the U.K. and the U.S.
A June 2022 addition to the Baylor staff, the former Nicole Thomas, played for McGuyre at Baylor from 2016 to 2019. She was a part of BU’s winningest class, helping earn a Big 12 title and a Final Four appearance in 2019. She was a middle blocker.
Shelby Livingstone serves Baylor Athletics as an Assistant Coach for the Volleyball program, returning to the team in 2024 where she was a volunteer assistant for three seasons, 2019-21. Livingstone spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Liberty University as an assistant coach under Trevor Johnson, a former Baylor assistant coach (2015) who played for McGuyre at Cal Baptist. Livingstone also played at Rice (2014-18), recording 205 kills and 367 digs in her career. She is the daughter of Baylor President Dr. Linda Livingstone and First Gent Brad Livingstone.
