Lost two friends, both Bears, in the last few months due to heart attacks. Both 50 somethings.

If you are over 50, please go see your Cardiologist and insist on getting a nuke stress test. We don't know the day or hour, but we can certainly mind the store a bit. Just a friendly reminder. Of course if you're under 50, it's not a bad idea to talk to your pcp about this and get yourself checked out.

Bahama Bear of this site passed away from a heart attack over a year ago.

Good advice.

Five years ago I spent 2 days in the hospital with chest pains. Had blood test, EKG, echo card, and chemical stress test with nuke imaging. Found nothing wrong with my heart and told me I had an inflammation of the sternum.

Four months later I was still having occasional chest pains and getting worse so I checked back into the hospital where I had a widowmaker heart attack that I wouldn't have survived it I hadn't already been in the hospital. A different cardiologist finally did a heart catherization and found 4 blocked arteries and I had to have immediate bypass surgery.

Sometimes a good diagnosis is not the true diagnosis. If it doesn't feel right keep asking.

I had a good heart checkup and also did the treadmill heart test. Damn that thing is tough.

About one third of first heart attacks are fatal.

You can not rely on a harmless shot across the bow

What is the difference between nuke imaging and chemical stress test bs the stress test on a treadmill with that dye? Is that a nuke stress test as well?

My dad had to take a stress test for a job when he turned 53. He ended up having mini heart attacks during the test and found out two major arteries were 99% blocked. He got stints the next day.

He thought his symptoms were heartburn and indigestion for months. Plus he was lethargic.

Had he not applied for that job, he probably would have died.

The chemical stress involves no treadmill. You lay in a table with an IV and receive a chemical that causes the body to react as though you are under heavy exercise with the increased breathing and heart rate.

The nuke imaging comes after either treadmill or chemical test, showing your heart's reaction to the stress.

If you are in a town with a heart hospital doing ct heart calcium scans please get one. They are cheap (in Austin $99.00 at heart hospital of Austin). Had n employee that had every test imaginable, passed all of them, finally had heart saver ct scan. Didn't even get home before they called him and said to contact cardiologist immediately. Ct score of 400, major blockage. Had 2 stents put in and is doing fine.

Bet he did the treadmill. I had to get to 170 heart rate and stay there for a minute. Thought i was going to die.

Cardiologists have the worst god-complex of any medical professional I know. Orthopedists are next.

All true, but now imagine an orthopedic doc that was the 12th man at Ag.

If you're wondering, he is a ***** with that same God complex you guys are thinking of..
