I think we can take the third (Lewis G Wilson was the first during WWII, Robert Lowrey was the second) Batman out of the contest as poor Adam West had no script to work with, he did have the coolest Batmobile though (for us of that age).

Then came what some would consider the first true shot at the comic book with Michael Keaton in the blockbuster movie Batman. Other Hollywood stars considered for the role of Batman included Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Charlie Sheen, Pierce Brosnan, Tom Selleck, and Bill Murray. But producer Jon Peters said he cast Keaton because "the image of Batman is a big male model type, but I wanted a guy who's a real person who happens to put on this weird armor. A guy who's funny and scary. Keaton's both. He's got that explosive, insane side."

Kevin Conroy did both the voices in the animated series and also played the batman in a crossover mode in 'Crossover of infinity Worlds'

Daniel Day-Lewis, Ralph Fiennes, William Baldwin, and Johnny Depp were reportedly considered as replacements when Keaton retired. But the job was won by Val Kilmer for Batman Forever.

George Clooney's most famous part in 'Batman and Robin' was two fold, the Bat nipples. Well at least there is that.

Christian Bale was probably my fav as an actor, he puts everything into the role. Batman Begins, the Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises are some of the best

Not sure you can add Will Arnett in as voice of Batman in the Batman Lego movie, but here it is

Ben Affleck also played an unshaven Batman

Robert Pattison played the last Batman in The Batman. Kinda screwy script but Zoe Kravitz is hot enough go get a couple of stars..... Directors, dont make a three hour movie unless its non=stop action!

I've always thought Keaton was the best. Call me crazy.

I'm trying to picture what Bill Murray would have been like as Batman. It would certainly have been funny!

West has always been my favorite. He was perfect for deadpanning the campy script.

With Rick Moranis as Robin?

I think the actual question is Who was the best Bruce Wayne - they're all pretty much the same in the suit. I thought Keaton was the best Bruce Wayne. I think Kevin Costner would have been great.

I honestly do not remember Kilmer and Clooney. I thought Bale was great and a good fit for the dark knight version. Pattison was by far the worst IMHO. Affleck was weird but better than I thought.

This was the conversation my 17 year old son and I had. We observed that there was very little Bruce Wayne at all in the Pattinson version.

He was fine with it and said he thought they did that because everyone knows the background so why spend time rehashing it? For me the mythology of the Batman background is too crucial to the character to just skip over.

New version felt like a combination of The Crow and Se7en to me. No bad, just not quite Batman.

Interesting, didnt consider breaking BW and Batman apart. I would agree that Keaton was slick as BW. Still gonna go with Bale as The Batman. Dude absolutely throws himself into any gig he get, total immersion actor

And you are correct, Kilmer and Clooney were forgettable

btw - Pattison got stuck with one heck of a not so good script. Needed to cut 45 mins off for sure. Still not sure if it would be any better though

Adam west and Keaton did Bruce Wayne well.

Bale was the best Batman, especially in Batman begins and the Dark Knight..

In the 'who coulda played' a great Batman/BW but never got the chance...

Daniel Craig (007) would have done a superb job but I would guess James Bond got in the way

Josh Brolin almost got the gig over Affleck. Not sure why it didnt work out.

Taylor Kitsch? Maybe two young but he was great in the Twilight series

Oh, of course Tom Hardy, but he played the bad guy Bane in one of the movies. Guess there was a lot of fighting in the casting trailer

Daniel Craig would have been unbelievable. I think Josh Brolin might have been good as well.

I'm not the movie buff you are, so I trust you about The Batman script, but Pattison's Wayne was just awful. I really didn't like the show either. No arguments on Bale.

I have a neurological issue that prevents me from walking far so I end up watching a lot TV.

Also been in 270ish TV shows or movies over the years, anything from an actor to stand in to extra going back to my first time on screen in a baby race in a NYC local access show in the 50s. Worked every decades since then, mostly just for fun. Only time I depended on it was when I was stand in which was pretty much work every day.

Keaton gets my vote. The Nolan movies are great; Bale is adequate but nothing special. Pattinson has a great presence but the new movie is dumb.

Haven't seen Clooney or Affleck. Both are excellent actors. A film critic friend of mine told me the second Schumacher movie was so bad it nearly soured her on Batman for life.

Heard on the way out of the theater after seeing Kilmer: "I wouldn't give six cents to see six more of them."

Do you mean Taylor Lautner? Taylor Kitsch wasn't in Twilight.

Probably, I'm getting old... Kitsch did the John Carter from Mars and did a good job in what turned out to be a b movie

Lautner was solid in Twilite

Either one could have been better than Pattison
