The problem even if you can stream stuff is that once you get all the stuff you like to watch you're having to get seven different subscription services that eventually ad up to about the same cost, a lot more trouble, and worse quality.

They're all included with PSVue (not stuff like Netflix, but everything included with cable). Consider PSVue as just another cable company.

my internet speeds under AT&T U-verse were pretty poor- around 10 mbps download and 1 mbps upload. I switched to Time Warner/Charter and I pay $47/month for high speed internet. I just did a speed test and they are 114.82 mbps on download and 11.47 mbps on upload.

Ps Vue is $59/month with tax for the Elite package which gives me everything I care about.

I do pay $108/year with tax for Amazon Prime- so I get all of their video offerings.

Another $11/month with tax for Netflix

So all in, $126/month. I was paying over $200/month when you include Amazon and Netflix on AT&T. No brainer for me because the quality and speed of the streaming improved a lot.

The only thing I don't have that I would watch some is live ABC and the History channel. But not an issue. Never lack for anything to watch that I find interesting and I really don't channel surf anymore so I watch a lot less TV which was a goal.

I already had Prime for shipping and Netflix for movies.

So I basically swapped DirecTV for PSVue. Now we make much better use of Prime and Netflix. Probably saved $100+ per month. More importantly, we waste less time just staring at whatever is on TV. We still watch plenty, but less, and it is more intentional (I want to see this sporting event, find this movie or show, etc.).

We had Prime prior to switching over to PSVue for all the other things we do with Amazon, so I don't count it. We don't use Netflix/Hulu/etc. We pay for internet service, which I'm going to with or without a streaming service, and for PSVue. We save in excess of $100 per month.

I was just down in South Texas looking for a fish camp. found a neat little property 1/4 mile off the water. Very reasonable price.

I dont care about cable, however - I MUST HAVE INTERNET!

Its way out in the country, no regular providers out there. The only way that I know I get the net is through Hughes Net via satellite. I've read some pretty rotten things about the service.

Any other solutions?

Basically, it depends on how close you are to some sort of terrestrial Internet.

You know how, at home, your wireless router plugs into your cable modem (or DSL box - however you get your internet), and the wireless antenna lets you get an Internet signal like 500 feet away? Well, if you're creative, have good terrain, and control over the structures, you can shoot that Wi-Fi signal 50 miles in a straight line.

You're building an ethernet "cable" that goes through the air. On one end of that "cable", you have some sort of gateway to the internet. On the other end, you have a distribution point, like another router.

Tricky, and needs the right conditions, but not impossible.

Hughesnet beats nothing but ain't great.

If you get any signal at all, those signal boosters now are actually pretty darn good. Learned that from someone on here.

You're starting with a pair of these.

I promise I don't work for Ubiquiti. They just happen to sell a lot of what I consider enterprise level gear at consumer prices.

That doesn't make the operation less difficult. Long distance P2P Wi-Fi is network nerd voodoo.

Yep. That's the one I got. It turned no signal or maybe one worthless bar at our ranch house into four bars. Beats the heck out of Hughes net.

They say that of course you need some signal for it to boost. We had some, but not a lot.

I called DirecTV again today to cancel and they extended my $55 per month price for another year, and gave me NFL Sunday Ticket free for another year. The same deal they gave me a year ago.

Do you use Verizon for wireless? If so, look into the Jetpack. $20/month extra on our unlimited plan for a mobile hot spot.

You can, but it's going to use copious amounts of data. If you have throttled speed limits, you will potentially hit them making you mad.

Would that Jetpack work out in the boonies? according the the V map, good 4g coverage in the Corpus to Valley area

I would think so. But if you want to stream, be aware of limited 4G in each billing cycle.

Yes, I use my phone as a mobile hotspot; yes, you can stream. Yes, you will use a lot of data if you do so.

When I'm that far out the boonies, be it ranch house or fishing camp, I'm unlikely to use data that heavily anyway. I'll probably be hunting or fishing, and then just want to catch up on emails or Internet, or maybe log into work for a little while when I need to.

Looks like its a broadcast only antenna. Just another version of the one you would put on your rooftop a couple of decades ago. Will only pickup what is broadcast in your area. 60 mile over air coverage limit

Thought about that too!

Its far enough up the road to miss the swells but the ground is really flat. A bit of runoff on the side of the road but I'm betting some of them are impassable. The acreage has a lot of mesquite. They hold the ground together pretty well

Yeah, it's just a regularass indoor UHF TV antenna. Nothing new about it. About $20 on Amazon, but they will work fine for over-the-air broadcasts. This particular design has been branded with several names and gets good reviews.

It won't pick up HBO or anything like that. The "article" looks like a sponsored ad fake news type thing.

One of the very best antenna's I've ever tried was one of the cheapest. If you are just starting out with OTA, try one of these first for about $8 and it may get all the stuff you want.

It looks like nothing, but it really works well.

Updated my FireTV and my two Firesticks yesterday and noticed the older Firestick ran quite a bit slower. When I checked the memory on it, the faster stick showed 880, the other 490ish. Of course the used/available varied proportionally to it. The only stats I saw online showed the FTV at 2 G and Fstick at 1 G. My understanding is that they split that number half and half, so the 490ish one would be about right for the stick

both of the sticks are the V2s I think, with the Alexa Voice on them. Even it it was V1, I dont see any historical change in the memory size.

Any thoughts on why the memory appears to be different?
