We've got a "Post a song you like" thread. How about your favorite band?

A few of my choices
Three Dog Night
Chicago
ZZ Top
Van Halen
Earth, Wind and Fire
Temptations
Pretenders
Ramones

Who else?

Many good ones, but the GOAT is without question. Certainly musical taste can be subjective, but the Beatles are the runaway leader in record sales as well.

Others: Not my cup of tea for several

Led Zeppelin
Garth Brooks
Drake
Michael Jackson
Elvis

Strongly disagree, but my 20 year old son says Kendrick Lamar

BTW, I see Dr Hook was posted here. Did anyone, for years (until you saw a video) think they were more of a soul/motown kind of band? When you see a video they look more like a band like Alabama or something you'd see on Hee Haw.

Silly responses….

Took several posts to finally name The Beatles….

And all the way to this one to get Allman Brothers Band!

The Beatles never were my taste, but I can't deny their influence. Before them, publishers created songs like other companies created widgets. They tapped an artist du jour to perform them. It didn't matter much.
The Beatles introduced the shocking notion of writing your own material, recording it the way you wanted, and performing it how you wanted. They were damned good at it too!

The Stones and Led Zep were born from England's sudden obsession with early African-American blues. That's not a criticism, because all great musicians borrow from those who played before them.

All this to finally name the two greatest musical talents to ever grace my era: Prince Rogers Nelson and Queen.

Always consider Prince & McCartney maybe the two greatest individuals. Both were multi instrumental great songwriters as well. Few could lock themselves alone in a recording studio and come out with a complete album. Both of these guys could do that.

Speaking of great sense of humor. One of Dave Chappell's best skits was Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories about the encounter with Price. Prince put Dave Chappell as Prince on an album cover. Greatness.

Journey
Aerosmith
Beach Boys (not my cup of tea but they belong)
Coldplay
U2

A lot of artists could make the list but some of them I hesitate to call "bands." They have bands but they are more recognized as an individual (George Straight, Tim McGraw, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc).

It wasn't just a skit. Others have said Prince could 100% ball!

And agree, a greatest musical artists list without Prince in it somewhere isn't really a list.
