A few thoughts on this
The end of month is always a bit frantic. I can't imagine how it's going to play out this month for CDK stores
The start of Q3 is going to be rough. What's more, allocations for vehicles usually run a couple months behind. Without some adjustments from the manufacturers regarding allocations, the pain will be felt throughout Q3 due to reduced incoming units. This is also approaching the time when a lot of 25s will be rolling out. Those new year models tend to generate some excitement and traffic. This may ne a wet blanket for some stores.
Prices have gone up and margins down for the brands hit by the strike. This has also added day$ to how long those vehicles sit on the ground. A big chunk of those stores are also CDK stores. OUCH
You can bet competing DMS providers like Reynolds and Reynolds, ADP and others are spending a great deal of time and money to make sure they are protected.
It will be interesting to see the ripple effects over the next several months.
The cranky parts manger has just ramped up the crankiness to 10 while he worries about his inventory and crappy handwriting that he can't read from the techs and counter guys.nein51 said:
We have a number of dealers on CDK. It hasn't affected us…yet…but it will because it's effecting technician pay.
Some dealers are using 80% of the last 3 checks, some are paying their flat rate x 40, some are saying here's a notebook enjoy writing it all down.
In a world where you pay is essentially 100% productivity based anything that slows you down is a huge pay cut.
For example for those that don't know. Technician pay at a dealer is flat rate. Every job has an assigned value of time. If you are slower than that time you make less faster you make more. So: the book says "Remove and replace alternator 1.5hrs" and you make $20/hr.
If you R&R that alternator in 90 mins you were 100% productive and you made $20. If it takes you 120 mins you were 75% productive and made $15/hr if it takes you 60 mins you were 125% productive and made $25/hr.
So every time you have to stop to write something manually, go have someone look up a part manually, wait for a hand written invoice to come back to you it's destroying your productivity.
The bigger ripple may not be these next few checks but how many guys quit and go somewhere else when they feel like they weren't taken care of for $200 while the dealer is installing $50,000 EV chargers no on ever uses (for example).
