My pulmonologist said not all sleep apnea was weight related. Some had to do with structure of throat and if parent(s) had the condition, there was chance offspring might have it. My mother was thin and had sleep apnea for a good bit of her life. I have read that most cases ARE weight related, and in my case, I definitely put on the weight. Hard not to think at least most instances are probably weight related, though def not all. I know I have used my CPAP with nasal pillows religiously, but it was a major struggle the first month. Felt like I was drowning...

I bought those things you put in your nose and it keeps your nasal passages wide open at night. No more snoring.

So, what's the treatment -- a CPAP machine, or one of the other options?

I bought a device on Amazon for about $23 that minimizes the snoring, but I don't think I stopped breathing before. I don't know if it would be effective for a serious case of sleep apnea.
What specifically did you buy on Amazon that costs $23?

My wife says I snore. I'll occasionally have some weeks where my sleep seems atrocious. It'd be interesting to try some simple, inexpensive things to see if I would benefit.

I think this is it, or one very similar. It's a little difficult to get used to it, but it seems to help.

Thanks! For such a low price it seems worth the shot. I just wonder how much sleep I'll lose getting used to it!

If it doesnt work, be sure to see a sleep specialist. Procedures have become SO MUCH better than when I had mine done.

It's hard to go to sleep the first few times you wear it because it feels so strange. It uses suction to hold your tongue in that bulb, so the sensation is that you are sticking your tongue out. It's not painful, or even uncomfortable, but it feels weird.

It helps if you are really sleepy. The next problem is going back to sleep with it when you wake up in the middle of the night. Sometimes I'll take it out for just a moment, thinking I will put it back in, then drift off to sleep. Other times I'll wake up, and discover that I took it out without remembering.

Anyway, it's probably worth a try.

What does this mean?

Around here, we recognize that the most significant (and risky) period in anyone's life is being 53. Ergo, we mark people's age in relation to Being 53, and Being Not 53.

A wise man once said, "Everyone is Not 53 once, the fortunate are Not 53 twice".
