How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have an event coming up for my Facebook page thats growing rather quickly, well over 9,000 members in 4 months. I've set it up in Deep Ellum on May 20th. (BTW - any greater Dallas folk are invited)

I need to buy a camera with video capabilities. Needs to be simple. Probably used to keep my costs down.

GoPro has been recommended, but I'm not sure what to look for. This will be in a club - 6-9pm at night, so lighting will need to be part of it. In the future, I will use for interviews. Would be nice if it takes stills also.

Maybe some kind of stablizer also.

Suggestions?

Some of our javelina voyeurs would have good insights.

I have a co-worker that uses GoPros for safety training events, extreme sports (he is a mudder and a mountain biker rider), hunting, and youth sports with his kids. They mount on just about anything. I will ask him about low light as I know he has used it on hunts and pow wows. Is high quality audio a need in the device? I know the data card you buy is very important. Put some money in there.

Is this a good deal?

GoPro Hero 5 Black - $200

I have a pretty much brand new GoPro 5. It is 4K capable and come with box and all accessories.

Plus I have an added fill accessories kit that has the chest and head harness, selfie rod, and other various attachments and things.

Will also come with a 64GB memory card which is ample for using it everyday.

It has no dings nicks or scratches and is in impeccable condition. I've used it on maybe 3 hikes and just don't have the use for it much anymore.

Is that an upgradeble feature (removable chip) or hardwired?

At Walmart (for exampke) you buy the better quality SD or microSD cards in the photo department. They have better quality connectors and are faster.

If Bring is talking about a camera, then it nay be more stable. Both could mount to a tripod.

We use one here. You can find one on Ebay for $400 on the A6000 to $800 on the A6300. A6000 has HD capabilities while the 6300 has 4K.

Both have still features the GoPro doesn't and if you are going to VLOG or take photos, it is light and easy to carry.

My guy has done a lot of low light stuff with his gopro (a 3). He has a dusk video of a bobcat tgat is teally good. He said that the stabilizers would allow a lot of movements like mounting it on a stick and raising it up in the air. With audio you just have the built in, so the concern is the case needed for the mount. He think the cases still let in good audio. Action, low light, and locating options are plusses.

I think Brian suggestion offers better audio options.

One of them. We have five different cameras we use. The A6000 recorded all the video from the highlights on TJ Franklin, while the interview was done on a different one with external microphone capability.

The easiest would be a consumer camcorder if you don't have the time or desire to really dig in and learn . A DSLR with video will have a bit of a learning curve.

Canon, Sony and Panasonic offer good options with SD card recording for easy transfer to computer, from $200-300 for some pretty easy and great quality video in a snap.

leaning toward a GoPro only because I know a couple of folk with them that can get me up to speed. And of course there is the editing suite.

So I havent looked at those. Is it easy to use? I've done old school splicing before thats about the extent of my editing

Havent purchased it yet - our MeetNGreet is coming up May 20th in Deep Ellum so I need to buy one and learn s the basics pretty quickly.

This is another one recommended to me. The audio is my concern. Can you add external microphones to GoPro and the others?

made sense when comparing to others. Now I just have to learn how to use it in one month... and edit it... and stablize it... and - you get the drift

Let's keep the filming consensual. No hiding it on a bookshelf.

Tis the season for dance recitals. I have aged out of that torture, but it could be a nice indoor, lowlight trial for you.

Being sober, or close thereto, helps with the stabilization.

This GoPro is cool as heck. Getting all sorts of great videos. Just bought a bike clamp. Found out I can barely walk - but I ride a bike for miles! Strange.

Getting the bugs worked out. Like the resolution. And my bike glove showing in all the videos. And the angle so its the Brazos I see and not the dirt road. And.. well you get it!
