Inspired by Keyser Sose's post about "Bands that have not aged well" - got me thinking about bands/albums that are better (or you like more) than you recall when they were new. I'm experimenting with Tidal HiFi. About 1 month into a 3 month free trial now and reconnecting with music I haven't listened to much in decades and hearing much of it remastered and or MQA on my recently restored mostly vintage stereo system. Here are a few albums that sound absolutely incredible and much better than I recall (in no particular order):

The Doors, LA Woman
Doobie Bros, Toulouse St. and The Captain and Me
Santana, Santana and Abraxas
Loggins & Messina, Sittin' In
Steely Dan, just about everything
Poco, Seven
Elton John, Madman Across the Water

Soundgarden
Metallica
Judas Priest
REM
Sleater-Kinney
The Walkmen
Mariah Carey

And how could I forget...Weezer.

I've also grown to like Santana more over the years.

Great topic Pen.

The heart of music for me centers around what I listened to growing up - Mid 70s (Queen - A Night At The Opera, Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive) to a few years after college mid to late 80s (U2, INXS, The Cure)

Finding new music has been moving outward from that time frame.

Always a big rock fan I also was well versed in the Beatles, Stones, Cream, Doors, and many more of the big name acts. What I have really added and enjoy greatly is some of the folk, psychedelic folk, and folk rock. I just Love Neil Young, though I can't tell my KA friend that because of Southern Man. If you like Neil, CSN&Y / CSN are not far behind.

Love how Neil can so solo with an acoustic guitar and is also know as the grand daddy of 90's grunge.

Love this, so 60s trippy - how much LSD was dropped with this playing

"A Southern man dont need him around anyhow." LS

Still looking for my Melissa but the song is one of my favorites and "Aint wasting time no more" is good. Overall its one of my most listened to albums. It reminds me of home though I am from Texas. It is Southern thru and thru.

Eat a Peach

"Everytime I am in Georgia I eat a peach for peace. The two legged kind"

RIP D. Allman

The album came out while I was in jr. high but I listen to it now more than I did then.

I'm a few years older than you. Had a thing for live albums back in the '70s. CSN&Y's Four Way Street and the Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore were seldom out of my under-dash mounted 8-track tape deck in my '65 Impala SS for very long. Good times...

I remember an interview with Petty about his early years: "We all wanted to be The Allman Brothers"

I generally like heavier music....but just lately I've come to appreciate REM. My wife was a big fan when we were in college...but I never got into them.

I still can't stand Shiny Happy People....but I'm starting to like a lot of their other stuff.

Jack White is pretty damn talented. He's about as eccentric as Howard Hughes, but he can play a guitar.

That song should be considered torture, cruel and inhumane, and destroyed

This is going to be heretical but I wasn't much on the Stones growing up. I've come to really like their bluesy rock stuff

My playing style is still modeled very much after Alex Van Halen. He was who I internalized growing up. As such, I never met a cymbal hit I didn't like.

Now, as I get a kit into my hands, I have increased my respect for Stewart Copeland and The Police. I always thought they were OK enough, but I really did not appreciate them.

I still think Sting is an overly self-absorbed, reasonably talented bass player. I'm trying to learn from Copeland's lighter touches, particularly on the hi-hats, and syncopated but smooth grooves.

Copeland is really good. I'm also an admirer of Matt Cameron and, of course, Bonzo.

Same here. I never got into them as a kid / teenager. But as a 40+ (ahem) adult, I listen to lots of Stones music. Honky Tonk Women is one of my all time favorite songs.
