I've always liked The Cure's cover, too.

Several Good ones - Dave Grohl & Jeff Lynne

Tribute to George - WMGGW Petty, Lynne, Steve Winwood, Prince, Gerorge Jr

Great pick. Prince's solo is just jaw-dropping. I've always enjoyed watching the reaction on Dhani Harrison's face.

Practically every one of Linda Ronstadt's hits was a cover of somebody, Buddy Holly, Michael Nesmith, Roy Orbison, Warren Zevon. This one is by Don & Phil, the Everly Brothers.
But damn, she made them her own and sounded so good and looked so damn good doing them. Still my favorite gal singer.

This might be the best cover of all time. I know it was a life changing experience for me.

Back when he was just seventeen, before he invented Ricky Nelson, the great James Burton invented this lick on a record he recorded with Dale Hawkins called "Oh, Susie Q".

Years later, an unknown band called Credence Clearwater Revival put out that same song. I was driving down the old Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike when John C. Fogerty came screaming through my car radio singing Oh, Susie Q and playing that James Burton lick in a way I'd never heard it.

My life was never the same after that.

This was the version I heard first. It was many years before I knew someone else originally sang this song:

To my estimation, the only time someone covered a Beatles tune and it didn't suck.

Not quite as good as the original, but a pretty salty cover.
