Following his performance at the inaugural Baylor camp of the summer, 2024 Lewisville (TX) wide receiver Lamar Kerby‍ picked up his first offer courtesy of the Bears on June 13th. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect hails from the same high school as current Baylor freshman wide receiver Armani Winfield, which has given Kerby an insider’s perspective on what to expect at the position.

“I’ve definitely had a few conversations with Armani about Baylor,” said Kerby. “He told me that Baylor is a great program and the receiver core is remarkable.”

Along with the Baylor connection, Kerby also shares the same private wide receiver coach as Winfield, Margin Hooks. Hooks is a former BYU wide receiver who regularly works with some of the top talents across the state of Texas and beyond.

The time spent perfecting his craft with Hooks has been extremely beneficial in Kerby’s development at the position.

“Training with Coach Hooks has helped me a lot,” said Kerby. “ I have learned a lot of skills and it has definitely helped me develop as a better receiver.”

Receiving an offer from Baylor meant the world to Kerby. He was really impressed with what the Bears were able to accomplish last season, and he believes that their person-over-player philosophy is something not to be taken for granted.

“It truly meant a lot to have my first offer come from Baylor; I think that’s elite,” said Kerby. “I like how they won the Big 12 championship, that was big. The program is great, even at the camp they made sure they took care of the campers and I really appreciate that.”

Last season Lewisville finished the season 11-2, before falling in the third round of the Texas UIL Playoffs. Heading into this season, Kerby wants to make sure that he’s doing his part to continue building on the success of last year’s squad.

“Simply put, my goal is to do my job this season,” said Kerby. “I know if I do my job, then my team will capitalize. I’d love to finish the season by hoisting the state championship trophy at AT&T Stadium.”

Baylor will continue to host camps throughout the month of June and will have one final camp in late July. Given his experience at the recent camp in Waco, Kerby is looking forward to his next opportunity on the Brazos.

“I do plan on returning to Baylor, but I don’t currently have a date in mind,” said Kerby. “I’d love for it to be an unofficial or official visit.”
