Baylor Play NIL Deals

We have seen a ton of publicity around NIL activity involving players at high profile schools. The most notable to to me is the "Horns with Heart" offensive lineman deal at Texas, as well as whatever the deal that Quinn Ewers deal ends up with at Texas. As much as we all hate NIL and the transfer portal, it is our new reality and I think it has a chance to ruin college sports. However, if any college program refuses to acknowledge and participate in this new reality, then they will be left behind. That certainly includes Baylor.

There has been virtually no publicity around any NIL deals that Baylor players are getting, at least that I have seen. Is this happening behind the scenes and is the school purposely keeping any details about individual NIL deal under wraps? I can't imagine that Rhoades, Aranda and Drew, are refusing to encourage NIL deals for their players. Can anyone shed any light on this?

NIL at BU is apparently provided by the Baylor Mafia

The first rule of the Baylor Mafia is that nobody talks about the Baylor Mafia.

However, I have it from a knowledgeable source that First Baptist Woodway is offering indulgences to players who sign with BU.

The Catholic Church allows First Baptist Woodway to offer indulgences? Things have really gone downhill since Vatican 2.

I actually heard it was a glass booth with money pumped into it by a turbofan at 150mph in the SUB basement. Signees have 60 seconds to stuff as many $100's into their pockets as possible.

What is with that gold bullion the Tech folks used to rattle on about back in 2015.

I think as with anything Rhoades does .it's done stealthy.

I follow several players on Instagram and a lot of their posts talk about partnerships with apparel and fitness companies.

Well these are Baptist indulgences. They only include Baptist sins, like dancing and drinking. They do include 3 free guitar lessons with the contemporary worship leader, two free tickets to a Holly Tucker concert, a set of wooden pallets suitable for creating a stage backdrop and a VIP pass to the pickle ball courts.

It's easy to look at the headlines and think NIL is out of control and that those who can't land these million plus deals will not be competitive.

However, the average NIL deal, last time I read about it, is worth about a grand. Also, in my opinion, those financing these large NIL deals will experience buyer's remorse sooner rather than later.

Only one team can win the national championship. If your team doesn't win it despite all the cash you are throwing at players, it's going to be hard to continue justifying the expense.

Would you you listen to your team mate yelling at you to play harder when they have already pocketed $150k… against your $1k. These big NIL deals better spread quickly to all positions… the weakest of the 11 on the field is always the first identified to be exploited. Team unity is strongest when everyone is in the same boat. Big risk of keeping a locker room together when everyone knows who gets what. The Baylor NIL deals (and there are many) are best left confidential.

Heard on the sidelines:

COACH: You! #73! Get in the game and I want you to sack their quarterback!

#73: What's it worth to you???

#75: Hey, coach, I'll do it for 25% less than #73 will.

I don't get the obsessiveness with our fans to have transparency with NIL deals, CDA contract details, etc.?

Is your compensation made public by your employer? If not required by regulation, then there's no need for it other than fan curiosity.

If I'm a recruiter, I'd want to know what the competition is like.

And to know how much sweeteners I might add.

I was thinking Prestonwood Baptist might want some 300 lb bell ringers to play with the Christmas Choir. It would make the choir sound nice. They could pass the plate during a break. Just need to make sure Drayton is in attendance,

I suspect it is t confidential among the team.

If you are not part of the Baylor mafia, then we cannot let you in on any of the secrets on how we funnel money under NIL to Baylor athletes.

Man, it is hard to get a straight answer to a simple question from you smart a$$ comedians. I don't need details on anybody's deal. I'm just curious why there is so little publicity on the subject.

Because that's not how Rhoades is approaching it.

That's an interesting approach when just this week TCU, SMU, and UT had stories out about some of their NIL deals/plans.

Seems to be working so far. If he wants to announce something, cool. If he doesn't, also cool.

Yep, you'd hate to let good publicity like that out and have it help recruiting.

Yeah….that is like having the idea that we need to keep our facilities a top secret except to those who sign with us. I'm pretty sure UT's several announcements about the NIL arrangements for all their athletes is helping attract recruits more than just the UT brand previously did.

The last thing we need is for Baylor to appear like it isn't all that committed to getting compensation to its athletes. We went 20 or so years or more before we realized we really did need to join everyone else in the facilities and coaches compensation arms race. Perhaps some arrangements will be announced with the contract extension announcement after the Sugar Bowl.

Why do people think Rhoades is controlling NIL? The whole point with NIL is that the school is supposed to be hands off, or at least that was how I thought it was presented. Perhaps behind the scenes Rhoades is working deals, but I thought that the school would be more than an arms length away from NIL deals. It should all be handled by corporations and the boosters controlling those corporations. But it's the wild west, so who knows.

Exactly. Still not sure why everyone thinks Rhoades is the NIL coordinator now.
