Add that this is a happy guy, especially after he just mauled somebody,

Leader in the locker room and only 21. Remind you of a certain LT we have in house? Didnt we get TSmith1 when he was 21?

Someone was gonna have to replace Tyron eventually. Smith might be a G though.

Led the NCAA in penalites
Horrible technique
Hasn't played OG

Unbelievable

Flozell says hello

So does Connor Williams and Flo didnt have to start immediately as I remember. We better get a vet Left OG so our FIRST ROUND ****ING PICK CAN ****ING LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE ****ING POSITION. DO YOU ****ING UNDERSTAND THAT?

I'm glad to see your anger.

Now you know what it's like when you see them draft a wideout when we had one of the worst defenses in the league.
Don't be obtuse. Lamb was the best available player which is absolutely not true of Tyler Smith and as Dan Quinn has proven, a big part of our defensive problem was our defensive coordinator was trash.

Draft need, not player.

Dumb as fk to draft positions you don't need.

You told me just a month ago we needed OL help.
You dont draft need no matter what and because the Cowboys play in 11 personnel on offense there was a need at WR when Lamb was drafted, not to mention his rookie contract is what is allowing you to say goodbye to Cooper now (not that I agree with that decision per se).

And yes I did say we needed OL, but you don't take a project in the first round after the guys that are first rounders got wiped out. We also need an edge rusher, a 1-tech DL, and once again a WR, all of which had were still available but we choose not to take because we were desperate apparently in taking a OL no matter quality of the player.

Did the kid get 1st round grades or no?

Nope. Every player Dallas had rated as a 1st was already picked ahead of them, and trading back likely wasn't in the cards.

David Moores best 2nd round picks available:

SportsDay insider Calvin Watkins' ten prospects to watch on Day 2:

Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia
He might be undersized (5-11, 229) for the Cowboys' taste but he was first-team All-SEC with 10.5 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups.

Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson
He's had some health issues that might have pushed him down some draft boards. But, with the uncertain status of Kelvin Joseph, he might be good to take a chance on.

David Ojabo, DE, Michigan
He had 11 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 35 tackles last season for Michigan. Ojabo has the size defensive coordinator Dan Quinn seeks, but can he produce in NFL? He injured his Achilles at Michigan's pro day and might not be ready to play until 2023.

Logan Hall, DE, Houston
His stock increased during the draft process, so he might be gone by the time Dallas selects at No. 88. Hall had 13 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last season.

Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
He produced 38 pass breakups with six interceptions in 43 career games for Auburn. He led the SEC in pass breakups and was first-team All-SEC last season.

Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan
He ran a 4.41 40 at the combine and he's more of a slot receiver, 5-11, so there's a role for him. He scored 10 touchdowns last season.

DeMarvin Leal, DL, Texas A&M
Leal visited with Cowboys' officials at The Star, so there's that interest. He's got the size, 6-4, 283, and the position flexibility, defensive tackle and defensive end, the team wants.

Luke Fortner, C/G, Kentucky
Fortuner might be a Day 3 pick, but his position flexibility is something of interest. He played both guard spots and center in college and his frame, 6-4, 307, is hard to ignore.

George Pickens, WR, Georgia
He returned from a torn ACL to play in the late stages of the 2021 season. A talented player, who led the team in touchdowns in 2020.

John Metchie III, WR, Alabama
If he's healthy, suffered a torn ACL in SEC title game, he can play multiple spots, especially the slot. Before his injury, Metchie led the SEC with 96 receptions.

Here's how SportsDay's columnists and Cowboys beat writers judged the selection:

Tim Cowlishaw
Grade: D
I'm not a huge fan of the Cowboys' obsession with feeling they need to lead the league in spending on O-linemen to be successful up front. On top of that, the Cowboys draft a run-blocking tackle who is extremely young and rated extremely raw in pass protection. It's a reminder that the Cowboys never approach seasons with urgency, forever pushing future hope on their fans.

Michael Gehlken
Grade: A

When the directors of Micah Parsons, Tyron Smith and Zack Martin roll out their newest sequel, it seems wiser to watch than write it off. Tyler Smith plays with a violent temperament, and he has all the athletic tools. His potential to serve as both the left guard of the present and left tackle of the future makes him a swing-for-the-fences selection.

David Moore
Grade: C-minus
Mike McCarthy came away with CeeDee Lamb in his first draft with the Cowboys. Micah Parsons followed in the first round the next year. And now there's ... Tyler Smith?

Dallas has earned the benefit of the doubt with its recent drafts. But, it's hard to see how Smith, a left tackle who will compete at left guard to get on the field as a rookie, will have an immediate impact.

Kevin Sherrington
Grade: B-plus

Jermaine Johnson II, the defensive end from Florida State considered a top-15 pick in most mocks, dropped right into their laps, but they passed. The Cowboys' recent record on first-round offensive linemen is their best excuse.

Calvin Watkins
Grade: C
The Cowboys thought moving up was too much for a defensive player. Jermaine Johnson II, Trent McDuffie, Kyle Hamilton, Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and maybe Devin Lloyd were possible candidates. Instead, the Cowboys took a tackle who will move to guard with tremendous upside. He is raw, though.

Really, the best reason to be excited about Smith is that Will McClay, the team's vice president of player personnel, signed off on the 21-year-old who should start at left guard.

He puts the draft board together and he's the biggest reason the Cowboys have done well drafting in the first round since he took over the 2014 draft.
Zack Martin (2014), Byron Jones (2015), Ezekiel Elliott (2016), Leighton Vander Esch (2018), Cee Dee Lamb (2020) and Micah Parsons (2021) have each played in at least one Pro Bowl.

Taco Charlton (2017) was the only bust.
The point is McClay and his staff rarely miss in the first round. He earned your trust.
The reason he's been successful is he spends an inordinate amount of time working with and talking to coaches and scouts to make sure the players on the Cowboys' draft board are the types of players the staff wants.
Remember, it makes no sense to spend thousands of man-hours and millions of dollars putting a draft board together and ignore it.

The Cowboys had Smith ranked 16th on their draft board Jerry Jones tried frantically to prove it, according to reports and that's all that really matters.
We'll soon find out whether Smith is better than the linemen taken ahead of him or the players Dallas passed on to grab him.

Along the way, we'll find out whether we were right to trust McClay.

Whatever else you think of the Cowboys, they're good theater. As for the football stuff, let's say Smith lives up to the Cowboys' projections and proves a worthy successor to the likes of the other Smith. Over the last 26 seasons, the Cowboys have accounted for 139 Pro Bowl selections, more than any other NFL team over that period.

Tyron Smith hasn't played a full NFL season since 2015 due to an assortment of injuries. He played just three games in 2020 after having neck surgery. He returned fully healthy and played in 13 games last season. Tyron Smith remains one of the top left tackles in the game, but he'll turn 32 on Dec. 12. Dallas will have to think about Smith's future soon.

He's signed through 2023 season and while he's not owed anymore guaranteed money, Smith has a base salary of $13.5 million in 2022 and $13.6 million in 2023.
