Trigg has no idea how talented he is yet. Needs to be bit more patient towards the ends of his routes

It was a small part of a lengthy end-of-the-year news conference for the Cowboys, but it was notable. Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones, when talking about the upcoming NFL draft, said the team would focus mostly on scouting prospects from the Power Four conferences: the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big Ten, the Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference.

In the transfer portal and NIL era, many players who might've been diamonds in the smaller-school-rough have already been discovered.

In 2022, for example, nearly 20% of the players invited to the NFL Scouting Combine came from non-Power Four conferences. Last year, fewer than 10% of combine invites were from those same schools. This year, that number dropped down to 5%. Eleven of the 133 players at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., were from non-power conferences.

"There's no question that certainly the top talent is aggregating due to NIL and the transfer portal," Jones said from the NFL Combine.

Not sure why that was really notable. Will McClay has made no secret over the years they place a high value on Power 4 prospects, just for the fact they play on a bigger stage and would adapt better than smaller school prospect to being in Dallas.

That said, NIL certainly makes the talent situation even more extreme.

I think his point was that the schools outside the P4 are losing their best talent to the P4 with the NIL.

Agree...I am just surprised that the author thought that was notable. To me it would have been more logical to say "the Cowboys continue their trend of prioritizing Power 4 players, with college NIL concentrating talent reinforcing the approach."

I had to trade down after getting wiped out at 12, but even with that I would be very happy with this haul.

Went Peter Woods in several of my early mocks. Wasnt quite as important after Clarke and Williams signed, but taking him would make signing Clarke not so important.

He would become our best receiving TE immediately. Blocking, I have no idea. But he also might fit in as an HBack or similar

Dallas gets cornerback Corey Ballentine, under a new contract.

Ballentine, 29, is a former Giants sixth-round pick who has bounced around the league but who last year for Dallas played in five games, with 47 snaps on special teams and 23 snaps on defense.

A paragraph off Heavy. That site is usually FOS (Full of you know what), but they had this draft suggestion

The Cowboys' first pick is the No. 12 pick, and Yates sees them going with cornerback Jermod McCoy out of Tennessee for that choice. But, he also sees them making another deal with the Packers to move to No. 20 in the draft and pick up edge R Mason Thomas of Oklahoma.

In case someone offers $10m for Aubrey, we decline to match. He made kicks from 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 at the NFL combine, then went out and ran a 4.5. Scouts asked him to do some DB drills after all that

To be clear, lower on draft order, e.g. if they were picks 1 and 32, we would get 32.

https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/george-pickens-contract-situation-harsh-truth/

George Pickens situation. We already have one high-priced WR. Not sure I would want a second at the same position vs letting the NFL know that he is available on his one year franchise deal (unless we get a reasonable deal done). If he wants 40 plus, he is putting us in the same situation that Dak (and Jerry) put us in with a 60 million deal.

I think it we let the league know now, we can get a 1 and 2 or something like that. Maybe include a solid but not spectacular WR back plus a 1.

Oh damn. Forgot about this guy. Without him IU might not have won it all. Would be a solid WR3. We wouldnt take him with our 1's, but come 3rd round, he's a definate looker

I've been looking so hard at the D, kinda ignoring the O

Myles Garrett would love to play for Dallas

What about a George Pickens for Garrett trade? Pickens is 29, Garett is 30. Garett makes $40m per, Pickens appears to be asking for that.

For us, Pickens addresses a excessive need. For the Browns, Jerry Jeudy is their #1, but the let their pass catching TE David Ngouko (sp?) leave in FA. They really dont have a #2.
