I do think they will have to sign someone. I am hoping it's Fuller and not Beasley.

Big FA signing! We get LB Anthony Barr. Can play several positions, definately upgrades the LB rotation
Quote:
Vikings Wire managing editor Jordy McElroy to hear from someone who covered Barr last season. Here's what he had to say.
"Don't let the age fool you when it comes to Anthony Barr's abilities as a playmaker, particularly when he's dropping back into coverage. Just last season, he totaled five pass deflections and three interceptions, despite playing in only 11 games.
He's also a viable pass-rusher when given the green light to run loose. The eight-year veteran has built a career off his versatility, and if he stays healthy, the Cowboys will benefit from that immensely.
But the important word here is "if."
Barr spent a good amount of the offseason healing up from a lingering knee injury. You'd also have to go all the way back to 2017 to find a year where he played for the entire season. He's only played 13 games in the last two seasons combined.
Age and attrition are starting to set in, but even when the 2021 Walter Payton Man of the Year award finalist is not on the field, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better locker room leader and flat-out human being than Barr."
Fuller's only played in 55 career games (of a possible 97) after being drafted in 2016, and only two last season. But his career 14.7 ypc average is tantalizing, as his is age of just 28.BearForce said:

Neither UDFA Jonathan Garibay nor former CFL star Lirim Hajrullahu seems to have much of a leg up on winning the Cowboys' starting kicker job at this early stage of camp. The Texas Tech rookie went 6-for-8 on field goals on Tuesday, but missed two of his final three and failed all three "Mojo Moment" tries on Monday. Hajrullahu was 3-for-8 with four straight misses on Tuesday; he sank just his first of three "Mojo" kicks. Mike McCarthy says kicking will continue each day of practice this week.Assassin said:
Garabay is not impressing. Garibay made 4 of 8 field goal attempts and Hajrullahu went 7 of 8, with most kick distances somewhere in the 40s.

Running back Tony Pollard has been extremely efficient for Dallas not just in the run game, but also as a receiver. Pollard had 39 catches last season for Dallas, with a respectable 8.6 yards per reception.
Addressing the media Wednesday, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore discussed the possibility of expanding that receiving role for Pollard.
"At Memphis that really was his primary position, at slot receiver. And then he would kind of go into the backfield, that was his secondary role.... he's not going to just run the running back route tree. ... he can stretch people vertically," Moore said.
While replacing a receiver with a running back would be nonsensical in most situations, Pollard has the opportunity and ability to do more than "just run the running back route tree" this season.
With Washington and receiver Michael Gallup both to miss time at the start of the season, Dallas is in need of pass catchers. Can Pollard "high-point" the ball as a downfield receiver? Can he be "Deebo Samuel-like" in making the move back and forth? Is this the way to allow Ezekiel Elliott to dominate from the running back spot?
The Cowboys need help at wideout. The replacement just may be a few feet away, standing in the Dallas backfield.
The #Steelers guaranteed $27 million of the deal and Johnson receives $19 million in Year 1. He gets financial security, the team keeps him at a good number, he can cash in again soon and he’s back on the practice field today to work with Trubisky and Pickett. Situation resolved. https://t.co/IQPzCXtop1

Enter Tyler Smith, the first offensive lineman to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Cowboys since (coincidentally enough) Martin was in 2014. The pressure is immediately on Smith to quickly become an impact player - read: starter - at left guard, but he is currently battling with Connor McGovern for the right to claim that throne at the start of the 2022 season.
Having already made some eye-popping blocks in training camp, however, Tyler Smith is off to a hot start.
"It's really starting to come together for him," said Ezekiel Elliott of Smith's progress as padded practices get underway. "You can tell the game is slowing down. You can tell he's starting to [figure it out]."
Even more telling of Smith's potential, though, is in how Elliott lit up like a torch when identifying one of the rookie's biggest ... strengths.
"Dude is strong," said a smiling Elliott. "If you just watch some of the plays and when he just punches a guy -- he's lifted a couple of guys off of their feet just by punching. When he gets his hands on guys, they're not getting away from him. You can definitely tell he's a skilled cat, and he's gonna be good for us."
At one point in padded practice, to Elliott's point, Smith literally lifted former second-round pick Trysten Hill off of the ground and then pancaking him back to the earth below. So while the former Tulsa standout and First-Team all-conference lineman has history playing at both tackle and guard at any given time, it's the aforementioned power that will serve him well as the Cowboys look to lock him into the latter role, as head coach Mike McCarthy alluded to on Monday.
Stephen Jones on @dfwticket said they have not yet had contract extension talks with Tony Pollard: "There are some things as we move forward that we just have to take a look at in terms of that RB position and the cap...But the goal is to have Tony Pollard back here next year."

4. Sean McKeon, TE
With Dallas moving on from Blake Jarwin after another injury this offseason, the No. 2 spot behind Dalton Schultz is wide open. Third-year player Sean McKeon is taking full advantage of this.
McKeon has been showing great footwork and has made the most of every opportunity he's received thus far. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 246 pounds, he's showing very quick feet and even pulled down a few impressive contested catches, including a touchdown pass thrown by Dak Prescott.
2. Anthony Brown, CB
Since joining the Cowboys in 2016, Anthony Brown has been an undervalued player. He started nine games as a rookie while appearing in all 16 and had 55 tackles with eight pass defenses and one pick. From there, he continued to put up similar numbers while also playing in the slot which is a tough ask for any corner.
Then in 2021, he found himself as a full-time starter for the first time. He responded to the challenge by recording career highs in every major statistical category including tackles (71), pass defenses (17), and interceptions (three). He also scored his first career touchdown in their Week 4 blowout against the New York Giants.
1. T.J. Vasher, WR
The injury bug has been a problem for Dallas early in camp. James Washington, who missed time with a foot injury during minicamp, was carted off the field on Monday with another injury to his foot. It was later announced he fractured his right foot and will be out as long as 10 weeks.
That means Dallas is now without Washington and Michael Gallup, severely limiting their receiving corps. Without many experienced options, some of the younger names are getting a chance to shine including rookie Jalen Tolbert who has been delivering when called upon.
As good as he's been, however, the player who has really been stealing the spotlight is T.J. Vasher. A product of Texas Tech, Vasher signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021 but didn't play as a rookie after being put on the non-football injury list in August.

"When you break the huddle, he's lining up in the right spot, no matter what position he's in. He's where I expect him to be on each and every play," Prescott said. "He's just a tough guy - very resilient. I might say, 'hey, did the DB hold you right there' and he's like 'ahh, I've got to make the play.' When you that response from a young guy like that, not making excuses and trying to help the team in any way that he can, it makes you excited."
