The only way this offense is going to work this year is to call running plays for Prescott and allow him to use one of his strengths and that is his ability to run. When Prescott has received at least five carries in a game, the Cowboys are 9-2. They're 4-0 when he gets at least seven carries.

The Seahawks claim his absence was not injury-related. The disgruntled safety has now been a no-show at three of the team's last four practices. Despite playing hooky throughout the week, Thomas saw his usual snaps Sunday against Dallas and was arguably the best player on either team, recording a pair of interceptions in the Seahawks' win. It's no secret that Thomas wants out of Seattle, though the Seahawks have yet to show any real interest in trading him. If the Seahawks do pursue a trade with Thomas, he'd be a great fit for the Falcons, who have already lost both of their starting safeties to season-ending injuries.

As expected yesterday Sean Lee was not at practice but defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford (elbow) and safety Jeff Heath (ankle) were. Heath could be limited as he did not go through some of the individual drills during the open portion of practice to the media. Defensive tackle Maliek Collins (knee) was doing rehab in pads off to the side.

The Cowboys' offense goes through Ezekiel Elliott, despite those who think he is being ignored too much in the first three games. Elliott has 59 touches in the Cowboys' 165 plays, good for 35.8 percent. In 2016, he had 76 touches in 204 plays through three games (37.3%). In 2017, he had 67 touches in 182 plays in the first three games (36.8%). The difference to the Cowboys' start is the lack of plays in three games, which goes to an awful third-down conversion rate (eight of 34).

Defensively, the Cowboys lead the league in preventing plays of 20 or more yards. In their three games, they have only allowed four of those plays total (three passing, one rushing). Offensively, the Lions have had 12 total plays where they've managed 20 or more yards. Of those 12 plays, 11 have come on passes from Matthew Stafford. If there is a concern defensively it has to be whether there is pressure on Stafford and he's able to escape. His eye level down field and arm strength allow him to make throws which most quarterbacks in the league would never attempt. Staying with these Lions receivers and finishing the play will be a key here.
