I totally remember being a Freshman in BUGWB and the Director calls us all in before dismissing us after practice. He tells us that there is this website where people say some mean and rude things about the football team, the coach, athletic director and sometimes the band (gasp!) after the games! He tells us its best not to go on the site.

I had an assistant director pull me aside after rehearsal once and ask "Do you know who trumpetbear is?". It caught me totally by surprise so I immediately said Yep! and grinned. When he saw me smile he pulled out some printed out pages of BF discussion about the new head director. People had been griping about him and some of the new gameday procedures he had introduced. I had actually come to his defense and said to be patient, he is new at this, and a lot of the band members are frustrated too but it'll all work out. I got chewed out for presenting a negative view of the band and to be more mindful of the things I was saying because people on a message board would view my words as the feelings of everyone in the band.

That discussion was BS and I think he knew it too. Pretty sure it wasn't his call to have it. We ended up becoming pretty close friends and still keep up with each other.

To all BUGWB members out there: if you don't like your criticisms, then do your best. Learn that music. Memorize it. Learn that routine. Memorize it. Make sure your horn is in tune. Shine it up and put on the best show you can. This is show biz. You are part of the pageantry.

As with everything, reward comes with preparation.

And don't deny Baylor fans one of the coolest and most unique experiences in college football.
