Honestly UT or OU draw like 1.4 to 1.6 million viewers on average on their own. Remember part of the viewers are fans of the other team. Yes sometimes 2 million are UT etc fans but there are BU games with better ratings than a UT or OU game.
Brent Venables called out Oklahoma football fans to make the 2022 Spring Game a great atmosphere, and they did just that.

A hyped-up crowd of 75,360
strong showed up and out at the Palace not for a regular season game, but a spring game. It was the largest spring game attendance in the country, and easily the largest ever to attend an OU spring game.

They'll never have to worry about viewership and I have never seen UT's stadium "half empty" as someone posted above. To argue otherwise is crazy.

In 2014, Texas Memorial Stadium was half empty in the 4th quarter while Baylor was giving them a total shellacking. We won 28-7 & it was a shutout with 3 minutes left. My big regret from that game is that I didn't take photos of that near empty Stadium. It was beautiful!!

That WAS beautiful! It was also beautiful emptying their stadium in 1989 when Baylor beat them 50 to 7.!

I was in Norman for the 2014 emptying of OU's stadium in the 4th quarter. Beautiful.

Nearly all stadiums are half empty in the fourth quarter when the home team is getting beat down.

Agree, but thing is UCLA is not supposed to be getting beatened down. Once they move they may never see a .500 season for a long time.......and they may freeze their buns off doing it.

What is the financial impact if a school's game attendance drops, such as by 20,000 per game?

If tickets were $75 each that would mean $1.5-M per game, for 5-7 games per year? And concession sales might be a few hundred thou more lost each game.

Of course, the season ticket sales make this tricky to calculate, but since this becomes a $$ issue, then schools should consider this factor, and not just the TV money, in their re-alignment calculations. Do they want to abandon "regional rivalries" in order to play conference games on the other side of the country?

UCLA is not a blue blood. They are tagging along with USC to the BiG. Having said that they must have a decent media value because I doubt the BiG would take a tag along with USC who caused everyone else to lose money.

BTW isnt today the day the UC BOR (the BOR of both UCLA and Cal) was supposed to meet about UCLA running off to the BiG without Cal ? If some mandate occurs that UCLA and Cal have to stay together and the BiG says no thanks and invites Stanford instead, I would not hesitate for a second for the XII to take UCLA and Cal among a 4 some or less.

That said I'm sure the BOR will figure out a way for UCLA to move on and it not breach their fiduciary duties to Cal. I think it will be questionable rationalization but I'm sure there will be some deal to make it work.

I don't think some of our fans are ever gonna get it. None of this has anything to do with how many titles you've won, how full your stadium is, who your Daddy is or any other BS. The conference has little to do with this other than listening to what FOX or ESPN execs are telling them to do because it will add value.

Do we still have fans who don't understand Fox Sports is based in LA and about 80% of its execs are former Hollywood guys who graduated from or have connections with............................UCLA? They don't care if UCLA draws flies. They made sure they were protected.

I just don't see how these massive conferences are going to last. I know it is what ESECPN wants, all the blue bloods in one or two conferences to try and create a super division of college football above FBS/ Division 1 so they can only worry about those teams in the playoffs/ national championships and everyone else can do what they want.

But if you have a conference schedule that has a blue blood school playing 6-9 other blue blood schools then there are going to be either a lot of blue bloods with a bunch of losing records. The fans won't stand for that and something will have to change.

Not to mention that attendance and tv viewership has been in a slow decline (even before covid). If it continues to a point where it starts to impact revenues, ad spots, etc. then the schools and ESPN will be forced to make changes.

NIL will increase that movement as well.

Edit: I also think it doesn't really matter who the Big12, pac or ACC add if they don't add blue bloods. They could all add 10 teams each but if they aren't blue bloods they are adding no one (in the eyes of ESPN, tv, reporters, and average fans). That is why BYU being added to the Big 12 is not seen as a win. Sure they have a Natinoal Championship from decades ago but they just aren't a big win to some. Sort of like adding Colorado right now.
