Is Lady still alive, or is this the end of the live bears program?

So far as I know, Lady is still alive. They were sisters & my guess is that Lady was the younger one.

If I'm not mistaken, Baylor has an agreement with PETA to end live bears on campus after they both die. I hope that's wrong but it's probably correct.

She's still alive, I read that joy was 21, Lady is 20 I believe

The school is supposedly attempting to get two new rescue cubs by next year.

Baylor is like the government. Don't believe a word they say.

What happened to a chamber man getting a new bear every 2 years of so? Did we do away with that? I thought we always had a cub on campus, too

I certainly hope so!! All Baylor fans deserve the option to go see the bears and to take kids or friends to see them.

We used to get a cub every 2 years? I have never heard of us having a cube on campus in my 30 years of life beyond when we get a new bear cub to replace a previous one

When I was a student in the 1980s, we would have a cub on the field for every home football game. When we scored a TD, the cub had a bottle of DP to drink. I also remember them ringing the Baylor bell after every TD.

IIRC, the cubs name was Robbie. Good times under Coach Teaff!

Great tradition from 1972 through 2009. Anyone know why it was dismissed … and why it never returned? The bell and air horn combo was great.

essentially the frat that owned it got caught hiding alcohol in it at a game and the guys were drunk. So it got axed. Also briles apparently didn't like it at games.

I talked to some of the current frat members last fall and they are trying to get the bell restored as they still have it and get the school to approve its use again. Cool tradition that needs to make a return for sure!

If they ever get it again & hide the booze in it again, the frat will deserve being booted from campus.

Years ago, when my son was finishing at Baylor, we went to the Bear Pit at feeding time. The "bearkeeper" invited us both inside the habitat and there we fed cookies to one of the bears, which ate them right out of our hands.

They trained them well to be that amiable with strangers!

You should see some of the old photos of large bears on the field or on campus and how casual students were with them!

I knew some of the Sigma Chi guys back around 2008 who did the bell.

Nice guys but I never liked the bell thing much...seemed very Texas State/high school style.

that sadly will never happen as it is against the law now to have a non-domisticated animal there. Although the term is losely defined. Last time I checked we never domesticated buffalos nor longhorns

Point taken. I was not aware of any such law. Is that Texas or federal?

But technically, if people eat them (beef & bison), then they are domesticated animals. Don't the LSU Tigers sometimes take their live mascot to football games. Auburn has their beautiful war eagle, although not a mascot.

federal is my understanding. The tigers enclosure is connected to the stadium at LSU so its "there" on game days.

I went to baseball camps at LSU.

I don't remember the tiger habit being connected to the football stadium.

p.s.

Found this: [In 2005, a new $3 million habitat was created for Mike by Torre Design Consortium, LTD. The habitat (situated between Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center) features state-of-the-art technologies and includes among its amenities lush plantings, a waterfall, a flowing stream that empties into a wading pond, and rocky plateaus. The habitat has, as a backdrop, an Italianate tower]

how long ago did you go? And sorry not attached but just across the street so fans can easily go see the tiger on their way to the stadium. Wish we built a small game day enclosure outside mclane. Would be awesome

Also lsu stopped bringing the tiger to games in 2017.

Looks like we tried to bring them back like 6 or 7 years ago but current USDA restrictions apparently prevent it or something along those lines. Can't find the exact regs

Am I imagining things or was that at one point discussed at the time McLane was in its infancy stages? I thought there were plans for a game day habitat for Joy and Lady.
