Ten Things That Stood Out Against West Virginia

Baylor travels to Morgantown for a rare Thursday night road game in conference play. Morgantown is a location Baylor has never won in and tonight the Bears needed it, but couldn’t get out of their own way.

  1. The game started at 6pm and the team might still be on the bus
  2. Money John Mayers returns with a great 40 yarder to salvage points on the second drive.
  3. Great play by Gavin Holmes‍ after a rough last game and Ben Sims‍ punches it in from the 2
  4. This team may have been missing Christian Morgan‍ all along. Two great plays by the senior afte coming back from hamstring issues to start the season and injuring it again against BYU.
  5. Blake Shapen‍ and Gavin Holmes‍ are developing a strong trust and these beautiful routes are giving the coaches reasons to come back to him over and over again.
  6. Baylor is subbing into the 3rd team at LB, JACK, and DL during this scoring drive for WVU.
  7. Shapen... come on....
  8. Been waiting on this Craig Williams‍ for the past three years. West Virginia doesn't have anyone that can play at his speed on defense.
  9. Second game in a row Siaki Ika‍ has gone down and this one looks like a hip to the head. Never a good sign, unlike the cramp before.
  10. And now Sqwirl is down with an apparent head injury after a missed facemask.
  11. Welcome to the Kyron Drones‍ era for a few weeks. Just a completely unnecessary hit on Shapen. A concussion and more likely from that hit to the jaw.
  12. The defensive secondary play continues to be the weak spot of the team. Special teams joins the party to make it a trifecta of errors keeping WVU in the game.
  13. The offense just can’t help the defense after getting a big stop as Qualan Jones‍ fumbles it back two plays into the drive. Momentum swings on top of momentum swings.
  14. A young QB just made the mistake you can’t make with that throw into the middle of the field.
  15. Dillion Doyle with another huge play, like Eddie Lackey undercutting a WR.
  16. If you can’t trust John Mayers, who can you trust?
  17. This is one of the most disappointing performances I’ve witnessed in 10 years on defense.

Conclusion: This team has glaring weaknesses in the secondary and square pegs in round holes at other positions.

Well, at least we don't have to worry about the pressure of making the CCG this year.

Develop the players, be competitive each game, get ready for next year

Why can we not tackle? Are we too busy stands my people up and the trying to strip the ball? Way too many yards after contact.

Looks simply like D Line is getting pushed back and linebackers are slow to fill and secondary is missing tackles. Other than that, our D looks pretty good.

Only last year we had a great defense and we are now painfully hard to watch. What happened? I thought our coach was a defensive master mind. I hope we straighten it out.

1. D-line is overrated. Very little pass rush and yielded around 5 ypc.
2. Must have played at least 30 people on the defensive side of the ball. Good depth or simply too few people playing at a high enough level to nail down a job?
3. Too much YAC. Missed tackles turned 2 yards into 9 yards all night long.

If you don't have the horses it doesn't matter how well you can plan the race. Horses can be trained, but it takes time to turn a foal into a thoroughbred.

Why are we not discussing the disaster of an extra point attempt that resulted in 2 points for WV? The fact that Coach Grimes son, a kicker, was the long snapper on the play and totally wiffed on his block. Along with the fact our #72 stayed in his stance the entire play and never even attempted to block the defender???

that block falls squarely on 72. Grimes son isn't big enough to block one of the best d-linemen in the country by himself

Agree about #72, but why the Hell is a "kicker" (Grimes son) the deep snapper in the first place?

Most deep snappers are not o-linemen. There are special rules in place that protect long snappers

Well those "special rules" didn't help a 200 Lb kicker from preventing a bull rush for a game changing block and return for a score!

Put that on 72. He never moved
