I'm sick of the Shapen slander. He is a first year starter and sophomore QB. Great things don't happen immediately, and if any fan base should know that it's Baylor.

I don't like to speculate on intangible things, but I think Shapen's biggest problem may be something that you can't coach into him -- and that's competitive toughness.gobears20 said:
It shouldn't be pinned all on Shapen. The dude still helped us win a championship for us and won some games this year. He needs a possession big type receiver like a Mims. We have some quick receivers but we need a guy who can go up and get a football. Take Johnston away from TCU and see how good they are then. Those are the types of guys who move the chains on third down.
Don't get me wrong Shapen has a lot to improve on especially footwork and decision making. You can tell the game is moving too fast for him at times. He also needs to use this off-season to be the leader of this team. I do think we should look at all quarterbacks in the offseason. Also I question some of the play calling for Shapen.
I'm as disappointed as any about this season because we were hyped up and we didn't deliver.
Honestly I'm more sick about our defense and especially secondary. Those secondary breakdowns are ridiculous. I would have not thought our defense would fall off that much under Aranda and Roberts. I know we lost some key guys on defense but we still returned a lot.
I miss having fans give credit for our many wins to everyone but our quarterback.Mitch Blood Green said:BaylorFan1234321 said:

Imagine how much more likable he'd be playing on a 10-1 team behind a senior?
Fans would be screaming for him to play after the hoss got the first down on 3rd and 3 instead of sliding. Why? Because a 28-26 win makes people want more.
I remember people questioning Duggan's accuracy. I don't remember anyone questioning his competitiveness or heart.boykin_spaniel said:
Everyone said Duggan lacked the inner dog and the ability to hit the broadside of a barn but he's now probably going to receive an invite to New York. So many people thought Josh Allen would flame out in the NFL and he's now competing for MVPs.
Shapen can learn and improve. Some of it is the harder mental aspect of the game but it can be done. Many of his mistakes are second guessing himself. Throwing a pass a half second late, mixing up when to slide and when not to, trying to place a ball as opposed to lettin it rip and then lettin it rip when placing would be better.
Pardon my French but everyone in life needs a certain percentage of "*****it" in their work. Shapen needs that. A sports psychologist combined with film study and throwing thousands of off season passes to receivers can help.
When Duggan's team needed a field goal to win on the final drive, he broke a tackle and ran 12 yards to put them in field goal range.CTbruin said:
Look at yesterday's stats. Shapen and Duggan were dead even on qb rating
Methinks criticism of 18 to 22 year olds is weak
I try to limit my criticism to coaches and play calling. I certainly thought some of Grimes calls were bad. Same for Robert's who gets very little criticism.
