Baylor puts a lot more resources into its program than it did in the past. It isn't crazy for fans to expect a return on investment. I would argue that it would be weird for a true fan to feel indifferent about losing a game that the team probably 'should have' won.

True we were getting results like this year paying the HC 100k a year and the coordinators about 80k a year and on down. This was about 26 or so years ago. I think for the money we put in due and the big business college athletics has become, we should expect more than we did in those days.
I hear what you are saying, but if we are playing our peers who are putting in roughly the same amount of resources, money would not seem to be a reason why we should expect better. We can't all go 10-2 or better. Somebody has got to lose, even when they are putting in as much or more than us. I guess what I am saying is that the fact that we are paying out more than we did back then, it is still relative to what everyone else is paying as well.

I think not keeping up with the Joneses is a sure way to sink, but just putting in resources doesn't mean success either. I guess it is how you apply those resources. I don't know.

Never haven been much for hating on Baylor or individual players, but perhaps you never read some of the things I, and many others, said about Coach Roberts, President Sloan, AD Stanton and Coach Steele on the old Baylor Fans. It was indeed brutal and well deserved. Defensive Coordinators Norwood (aka no-wood) and Bennett during the Briles era were also treated to much less than stellar reviews online.

This is nothing new. The BMD's always used to be able to do this behind closed doors. Now all of us get to do it in the open.

Thanks for taking my call. Do you guys even practice?

Said to Coach Steele on a call in show the Monday after a game.
That was me on the call in. Honestly. I was known as Judge in those days. The call in host cut the call. I salute your memory.

That is hilarious Judge. I remember a 5th Q call in show as well right after Baylor games on the radio way back in the late 90s. It was venting over the phone much like venting online in the present time. Even though Austin 360 existed.

Pretty sure we had internet Baylor message boards even before the Morriss era. We've been through rock bottom and our best times ever. The boards are still pretty much the same and internet sports talk is pretty much what it always was.
We did. It was the beginning and I don't remember fans hating their school or calling out their coach so much.
I think you confuse "hating your school" with wanting them to be a lot better. Every fan of every sport questions coaching when the don't play to expectations. Lose more, get more criticism.
Tearing something down isn't a very positive way to make things better.

All too often Baylor fans posting on these boards seem to go out of there way too sound like Frog or Cow trolls. I don't know if they even realize how negative they sound and how completely counterproductive that sort of thing can be. I doubt they even care, hence the troll comparison. Even worse, when they get called out on something stupid they post, they double down like petulant toddlers & continue with the ranting. Sometimes 2-3 people will go at it with a petty argument that goes on for hours, seemingly, & pages of posts. Some good threads have been ruined by these types.

I think maybe it reflects on the growing narcissism of our society. Social media & the internet in general keeps everyone connected, sort of, but it's mostly superficial & too many people think it's all about themselves. If at least that's how it sometimes seems.

Excellent post, Bakersdozen.

The issue (as I see it) is that this forum is open to anyone, and that means you have several people who never played the game, or never coached the game. At any level.
People watch games on TV, or watch the talking heads break down plays etc. on ESPN and think that they "know football."
They can quote stats, recall plays, but they were never in a huddle at a big-time HS program, or college, must less the NFL.
I once shared many of the Internet fans' perceptions until my middle child played football in Dallas from youth football in Highland Park to HS ball at Hillcrest High.
His talks with me after every game (youth to HS) taught me that what you THINK you see on the field and what really happens are two different things.
There are so many variables with players, their personal lives, locker room incidents, etc. that the average fan has no idea.
I learned to appreciate the game more from him.
I don't live or die with each win/loss like I used to.

You are dealing with 19-year-olds. Plus the ball can take a funny bounce, or a botched call can change the game.
When folks complain about Shapen or this or that call, I try to let it go.

My support of Baylor football is based on the fact that I spent the four best years of my life at Baylor and made life-long friends that I still stay in contact with today.

I remain true to my school, and hope that others could do so without getting so agitated over what is still just a game.
Sic 'em, anyway!!!
