Aranda completely botched the qb situation. He deserves to be blamed

Yeah that sucks because he didn't even get a shot when it's clear as day Shapen isn't the answer. Who knows maybe Drones would have been just as bad but will never know. And our QB room/depth takes a massive hit

Aranda is responsible but I have no doubt he was making the calls he was making on the advice of the OC and QB coach

Naw the only person responsible for Drones leaving is Drones. The only person responsible for Gerry leaving was Gerry.

Get Hudson Card and drive on up 35. He is better than any qb we have on campus.

If aranda doesn't name shapen starter and let bohannon leave, bohannon plays vs byu, wins, and starts the rest of the season. Ex: TCU

Bohannon left. That's it. His decision. He left for a miserable team and played miserably. He left. Gerry made the decision to leave. Could have stayed. Didn't

Aranda opened the door and guided him out. Then was applauded by Baylor fans for allowing Gerry to transfer.

I remember everyone outraged that Bohannon was playing in the Sugar Bowl and almost cost us the win.

It's easy to be right in hindsight, it's just not that easy in real time.

I get it. He wasn't even given a chance to play during a 6-6 season when the starting QB clearly struggled at times.

Who is the back-up for the Bowl Game if Shapen gets hurt?

The presence of Novosad probably factored into his decision making too. Drones seems like a good guy. I don't blame him for trying to find a spot where he can be more assured of getting on the field. Hope he finds a great spot.

It is interesting that he is still leaving the door open to possibly return to BU.

This is what I was wondering also.

I'm not up on the deep details of the portal, but can a player that declares for the portal, still play in bowl games ?

I believe I saw December 5th as the date teams can approach players in the portal ??

Odd date with plenty of bowl games to be played.

If Kyron can't play in the bowl game as backup, we still have Luke Anthony, the LA Tech grad transfer. From what I've seen, he's a decent QB with years of experience.

Nonsense. I've been as hard on Shapen as anyone and was one of few here who thought the staff made a mistake by selecting him over Gerry, but if Drones was viewed as a long-term solution, he'd have been part of the QB battle in the spring and would have seen more time this season.

Drones leaving was always the most likely outcome. I can't believe anyone would be surprised by this news.

We better have a good plan for this. I am too old and slow to put on a jersey and do it.

How much can we offer Hudson Card I wonder. It is so weird talking like SMU in the 80s out in the open btw.

Gerry Bohanon was a great teammate and good runner but a below average QB.
Blake Shapen is a better passer but a worse runner and a below average QB.

We really have no idea about Drones. Wish we did. Coaches have been wrong before. But our coaches didn't want to give him a chance.

Both GB and BS being unable to lead this team to significant victories (with 2022 team) is not mutually exclusive. We need a much better QB or a much better rest of the team to win meaningful games.

Novosad he should be game 1 starter if he is healthy and our line can protect him a little.

Great plan, but what is the sales pitch ? We have an offense that is run oriented is not exactly what a QB transfer want's to hear. In addition, we have a highly touted high school QB committed but not yet signed doesn't sound too good either. By the way, we just lost a 4 star QB who was tired of pulling splinters out of his back side ?

Anguish.

I like Drones. A lot.

He should have been given chances to play, especially during the second half of the season.

This is the way of the portal and will be a thorn in the @$$ for most FBS programs. The QB coach may be the 2nd most important coach on any team nowadays. If they don't develop clear talent that stands out heads and shoulders above QB2, the team will very likely lose QB2 come December.
The other issue is that QBs are quite possibly the biggest alphas of any position in any sport. Being #2 is not an option for them.

Good to see people have no agency or control of their own actions then. Makes it convenient when you're trying to prove a slanted point with a single diseased note.

Our offense produced more points per game, more yards per game (including more passing YPG), more first downs, fewer penalties and almost the same exact number of turnovers per game compared with our offense under Bohanon. Shapen isn't the answer, but Bohanon wouldn't have been with this diminished group of RBs and WRs and a significantly worse defense either. They're both middling QBs on good days. Bohanon is also statistically incapable of making it through a full season, but that's another issue entirely.

At root this is not a Drones issue or a Shapen issue or a Bohanon issue or even an Aranda issue. It's a competition issue. Drones would have every chance to win the job this offseason, and it looks like he's about to pass on it and most likely go somewhere with a QB1 worse than Shapen (and there are a lot of those programs out there).

Unless you have some sort of smoking bullet or evidence that Drones noticeably outplayed Shapen and deserved to be starting to outstrip those of our coaching staff, then please present your evidence and credentials. If that information exists I would honestly love to see it. Otherwise it's just hearsay with an agenda.

Exactly. This is happening everywhere. It's not unique to Baylor. Kids want to play and young quarterbacks aren't going to sit around waiting for their opportunity.

It's up to the staff to develop a starter and cultivate some sort of succession plan, but that's gotten really hard in the transfer portal era. Every decision you make has huge stakes, and making the wrong one can set your program back.
IowaBear

And you have zero evidence Drones isn't better… 2 way street. We didn't even get to see him play. When it was clear as day to everyone with a set of eyes Shapen isn't good nor is he the answer. Perhaps Dave didn't want to be wrong (spitballing) but there was zero reason to not give him a shot.
