Drones was not shown the door. Staff wanted him to stay. He was irritated he didn't get a chance to play when the starter (Shapen) was so horrid the entire season.
Drones got fed up and left. Staff tried to talk him out of it to no avail. Drones got picked up by another P5 program that had a down year but is a bigtime program and he will probably do well there.
This is a big loss for Baylor. The QB room at Baylor is now very thin and with Shapen as the starter the QB room is not only very thin with no backups, but also very very poor quality.
Only saving grace is Novasad but he is talking to the Purples and unsure what is going on there and why he is still talking to them on the sly. .
Regarding Drones being shown the door.
I don't know what happened. I don't believe you do either, but I have had a job before, and I've hired and fired people. Does your boss tell you "you should go somewhere else"? Usually not, but s/he might say, something like "I see a lot of work left for you to do in the next year to achieve your goals . . . blah blah"
In this case, my suspicion is that they gave Drones a message consistently like this over the course of the season. In a hypothetical conversation that I am totally making up, I can imagine it going where Drones asked for more time,
and the coaches did NOT say "we think you should transfer,"
but they did probably say "We don't think you are ready. You have a lot of work to do. Do these things XYZ and we'll see."
Maybe they never came out and said "leave," but they never rewarded him. Perhaps they even said something like "You are talented, and we want you here, but you'll have to adjust to fit into our system." After a while every manager or coach knows what the person is thinking who is receiving these messages.
See where I'm going with this?
