This tone is harsh, but those facts certainly play a role in any decision making.

Yet CU is known mainly for having a student body consisting of little more than stoners and ski bums.

I am all in on the Appleverse, nothing but Apple devices in my house. However, if Apple is the main streamer and if watching PAC12 games requires a subscription above and beyond my Apple TV+ subscription (like MLS or MLB on Apple) then I will not be watching any of those games.

I think this is the problem the PAC may be struggling with. Apple may be offering decent money, but to offer that they may need to charge their users fees above their standard Apple TV+ offering, which would impact visibility.

I'm not sure how many people watched MLS prior to Apple and I can't believe more watch now.

Eventually streaming will win. But, while the balkanization of sports broadcasting may increase revenue per league, it will reduce viewership. For example, I would only be willing to pay for BIG 12 football and Baylor Men's basketball games and something that let me watch a couple of NFL games on Sundays. Major sports leagues will do well in this environment. They will be able to capture some of the money people are paying for broad subscriptions that currently pay for the broadcast of less commercially viable leagues.

So, for example, if the WNBA thinks viewership is bad now, wait until their games are paywalled. There are other sports that would be similarly impacted. I wouldn't pay a nickel to watch the Olympics. I usually watch some swimming and track, maybe downhill skiing events or luge/bobsled (waiting for an epic wipeout mostly), but not if I had to pay.

The lat things I've read is that Apple is not looking good at this point. Apple wants ALL in 100 % , which is all streaming and the PAC 12 presidents

All streaming is a sure 1000 % Recruiting killer they are saying. Also heard on a different not that the Schools know the numbers and they are like 12 Million short of the Big 12's and only 20 % linear - - -NOT GOOD

Apparently they've been offered one Tuesday night and one Wednesday night game of the week on The CW.

We'll see how hypocritical the conference that prides itself on academics is if they accept that while causing football players to miss class time.

I'm really not sure why Colorado has not jumped back to the Big 12
It's been terrible times for them in the PAC 12

Apple is big on exclusive deals or, as Eddie Cue called them "global". Global rights were the cause of no NFL deal or Premier League deal being inked by Apple. I don't think the PAC 12 has the market value of the NFL or Premier League to dicker too much with Apple, so doubtless Apple wants everything if they are going to mess with the PAC 12. Here's what Cue said about the Premier League deal:

Quote:

I can't justify throwing what I think are the best engineers in the world on a small subset product.

This isn't 'Hey, I've got an opening from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight, and I'm going to put this game on,'" Cue said. "That's not the way we're doing it. We're all-in on this from an investment point of view, so it doesn't work unless it's something significant.
