Not really shocking. They have to cover their asses. Wait till the coaches and GM get fired after the season. If they were doing a good job, they wouldn't be hiring Briles.
Briles is finally batting 1.000 on something. He is 2 for 2 on getting hired by the worst team in the professional leagues.

Fix your sarcasm meter.
I nailed it. I figured you would be shocked. Clearly, a bunch of people like Malbec were shocked.
Mickey Mantle would be proud he tried to be a hit for both the Browns and the Cats. Both last place teams in their leagues.
A winless team with June Jones isn't going to draw any real football fan. Their GM gets canned for bringing in June and shunned by the CFL (an NFL partner).
Where are Art's lawyers to tell us he is getting another job "soon" as described last week?
Art could be holding out for a vacant poor public schools coaching vacancy in Oklahoma. They ll need him in January. They won't over pay and what subject does he teach?

Are you drunk? Serious question.
No, scattershooting ideas on what is next for Art? If he cared about children, those poor school teaching vacancies would clean up his image.
Are you drunk? What has you always defending Art? He walked away with millions. Can't he handle the fact that when he received the generous settlement check things were over for him coaching places where tv cameras are turned on for recording games?
What poor advice he received or he is one ignorant poor planner outside of the football field.

One more thing.
Let's face it. A bunch of disinformation comes out of the Briles camp. They cannot take blame. At least the regents are falling on the sword and leaving the board. They aren't clueless to the damage done by this scandal to their own outside reputations.
What horrible advice or a poor game plan! What could possibly go wrong with Sarah Briles getting worked up about Art?

It is not "defending Art" to make a sarcastic comment about things in the media and social media being different from what actually went down. It is an observation about how media work.

Art did poor in his relationships with the tv networks and media. His garbage games and chicken fry scheduling affected the bottom line. He cannot be trusted to hold up his end of the business relationship. Without the CFP and these tv deals, these coaches wouldn't be paying their kids $1 million in total salary like Art did at Baylor.
Next time, these coaches will understand that they are in charge and their program best not blow up all over the CFP money train. You don't like the fact I bust on Briles but after a year you need to admit it is not all Baylor stalling Briles' plans. He is a liability and cannot be trusted by the tv partners.

Don't think for a minute the advertisers haven't chimed into the networks.
The CFL has a partnership with the NFL to broadcasts games on the NFL network. NFL head Roger GODdell probably lost it when the Browns were trying to hire him. The NFL has enough trouble with players these days turning off advertisers and families. They didn't want to deal with coaches like Briles because they don't sell tickets.
I knew Baylor had some clueless athletic department people when Art was forced to stay up all night lobbying for the CFP and to be shown by the network on the playoff announcement program. There wasn't a chance in hell they were going to reward him for not doing what the schools were told to do with scheduling.

I post Ian was terrible. You log on and tell everyone he is the best thing in college sports.
I post Ian didn't understand the tv partners and what they were doing. You log on and tell us Ian knows more than the people that own the CFP.
The decisions made by Ian and Art probably caused at least half of the issues with the tv people. I posted 1,000s of times that they were pissing the tv people off.
Watch how Hugh Freeze reappears soon after the dust settles from Ole Miss. Hugh kept the tv people happy and quietly went away. If he survives the NCAA (he will if he can shutup so tv doesn't have to mention paid *****s for Ole Miss players and other criminal acts at Ole Miss), he will be at some mid major dog looking to get better while having a fan base that doesn't care.

Do you think that those advertisers like conservative Chick Fil A want rape mentioned on their broadcasts and stories about out of control undisciplined coaches and players? College football is ran by the southern football schools and their fans. They enjoy keeping sin in the closet.

I believe I read there was no confidentiality agreement involved, just a non disparagement clause applicable to all parties. I'm not condoning what the Regents did, but one could make the argument that telling verifiable facts about a person that lead others to disparage that person but without the speaker making negative judgment or editorial comment technically does not violate the clause.

I don't remember the exact words used, and I don't know what words were used anyway since they were regurgitated by reporters, so I don't know if any disparaging remarks were made.

And she'd better be very careful because I'd be willing to be that the confidentiality portion of that agreement says that you can't reveal the terms of the deal.

Just kind of wondering about how running to the Wall Street Journal by Murff and Co affected the confidentiality portion of that agreement?
I believe I read there was no confidentiality agreement involved, just a non disparagement clause applicable to all parties. I'm not condoning what the Regents did, but one could make the argument that telling verifiable facts about a person that lead others to disparage that person but without the speaker making negative judgment or editorial comment technically does not violate the clause.

I love it. That sounds exactly like the kind of argument those regents would make. Of course, their attempt to split hairs over whether their constant selective blathering waived privilege on the PH report was ultimately unavailing.

I don't remember the exact words used, and I don't know what words were used anyway since they were regurgitated by reporters, so I don't know if any disparaging remarks were made.

Yeah, well I am not a lawyer. Of course Briles' lawyer would say that. And it is certainly possible Baylor's attorney would have made an argument like the one above. We will never know because Briles dropped the suit. Although I think he could file again.

Yes Whatever his reason was for dropping it Certainly did not do much too instill belief that he was as innocent as he was claiming.

He dropped it they day before the response in the Shillinglaw case was released which had the text messages and other stuff.

This was also about a week after the Title IX lawsuit which tossed out the 52 number

I have verified that at least 17 players have been accused of sexual or domestic assault (well, except that to get to 17, you had to assume that a couple of the gang rapes that have not been detailed involved different players than the ones that were.) And, it is also likely that the texts that came out regarding some of the other non Title IX incidents (such as brandishing a gun) are not all out of context.

Hugh Freeze maintained innocence right up to his firing.

Shillinglaw lost his slander case. I don't think Briles would win his either. Even if he is ONLY guilty of leaving discipline to his assistants and tone deafness (which is doubtful given what we see with other coaches), the jury would likely not take Briles side after all this publicity .Why, because those things led to girls being victimized.

I think this may be a transcript of the interview Malbec was referencing re: the TiCat CEO defending the Briles hire. Clearly, the lynch mob ran over him, but some interesting blurbs in here.

Here's a quote from the interview:

Reporter: "DE: Baylor did find that Briles and the football administration was responsible for a culture that covered up alleged sexual assaults."

Team CEO: "I think there's a plethora of information that is not necessarily in the public realm and I think it's dangerous to comment on what's out there because some of it might be accurate but a lot of it isn't accurate as to what exactly occurred. We've done our due diligence from a legal perspective, we understand what the findings were and in many cases, those are different than what's been discussed in the media."

Shocking, isn't it?

One more reflection on this The Hamilton Ti cats CEO just offered more of a defense of our football program and Briles than our own bor ever did. In fact, all they ever did was smear.

One of the Bfans posters had a website where he listed every accusation reported in chronological order. I was able to count to 17 assuming the two settled gang rapes had multiple different players. I could get to 12-14 without using those cases. The variance of 2 depends if I was wrong to include assaults on males. I'm guessing those were not included but that there were unreported incidents involving females to replace them.

Remember when Jerry Jones said Zeke was innocent of domestic assault and that there was no evidence to support it? My point all along is that people on all sides have all kinds of bias, prejudice, and motivation to lie or mislead or to support either their stance or their bias; and we will never have a complete picture.

BS

He was playing the CYA game. He was dumber than a rock thinking the blow back they received would not happen.

Smear? How can you call the truth a smear?

I am inclined to believe Sarah Briles because of a complete lack of evidence that Art Briles did anything wrong other than completely immersing himself into being the best football coach that he could be. Kenneth Starr has also gone on record in publicly stating that Art Briles is a good and honorable man.
I am a Baylor letterman, a Baylor graduate and I love Baylor.
