To me the only real upside is it hurts the Pac-12 and secures the future for the Big 12.

We probably end up getting Arizonia and a few other good Pac schools from this move.
That's the main point. Stability and survival. The SEC and B10 can't only play with each other forever. There have to be a couple other power conferences. Everyone has always talked 4 16-team conferences for some reason, and I'm not sure there is sufficient inventory for 5. B10 and sec both sitting at 14, and the ACC is at 15. We get to 14 with long term GOR locked up and Pac weakened ... we survive and maintain relevance. We add another flagship state university and another major metro market. Colorado remaining weak or mediocre is just a whatever.
B1G and SECSECSEC jump to 16 next year.

I'm still trying to decide whether 14 or 16 is preferable. Add one more PAC school to get to 14 and you have somewhat of a geographical balance: 3 out west, 3 out east and 8 in the middle. Add 3 PAC schools and it gets a bit skewed.
I think you probably get to 14 and hold a while, unless you can finish out with AZ/OR/WA.

B1G and SEC keeping a little powder dry. So is ACC.

Oregon and Washington may be concerned B1G might go with Stanford and ND to close things out. That would leave them out in the cold. May be another reason they're talking to us now.

If there are likely 64 spots on the carousel, a few P5 get left out. It was poised to be us, ISU, KSU, TCU etc. - some subset of the hateful 8. Now, it is poised to be schools like Wazzu, Oregon St, Cal...

Still very unpredictable, but back to the point - I don't care if CO comes out of the doldrums or not. This is about positioning the conference so that we all survive to play at the highest level.
Sorry to quote myself, but thinking through this a bit more. ACC and B10 are going to fight over ND. ND may stay independent, or B10 likely wins that battle. I think B10 might prefer Stanford to Oregon anyway b/c of academics.

All that said, neither Oregon or Washington are guaranteed a spot in the Big 10, and Oregon is probably at the most risk b/c of academic fit for the Big 10.

The best inventory available to B12 (after AZ) is OR and WA. So if you can get them with full GOR you take them and call it a day at 16.

If not, sit at 14 and wait.

I would not go past 14 for any other remaining Pac school. Utah and ASU can hang in limbo. I think Oregon may eventually just have to go to the B12, and I think Phil Knight probably likes what Yormark is doing from a marketing and crossing sports w/ culture perspective.

Apparently there was still a possibility we might get Oregon from it.

The ACC currently has 14 members or are you counting ND? They are independent and will likely remain that way.

Until the ACC collapses & we grab more from the east coast. If it's skewed, it's better to the east: larger population, more eyeballs on TV, better recruiting, shorter travel distances for most existing teams, etc.

Seems almost intentional.. Bowlsbys smartest decision may have been not pursuing litigation against ESPN like he threatened when OU and UT left... can't piss off the one that feeds you

I say it looks like an Oregon State fan wants to be the next team in: the two logos together with the same colors. It is a bit cryptic. It's probably also a pipe dream. I thought if anyone is thinking about adding Oregon State.

What would it take for Baylor to get an invite to sec or big 10? Hypothetically speaking..

I wonder if the other night the XII Chancellors and Presidents also voted to accept applications from UA, O and UW should they apply in case things move really fast. I suppose that may have leaked if so though.

As many fans as Alabama and probably need a stadium of that size too. Start there.

Problem with this is same problem PAC 12 is experiencing now with media. Your West division draws audience only from West coast and has no national relevance. Time slots for these home games will be late, meaning audience east of Mississippi has no interest turning on tv to watch when they have choice of SEC or ACC games. Not a good suggestion at all because it will cause money split among teams to dry up.

agreed . only bad entry was houston. UC and UCF are good adds.

None were "bad" adds.
cougar high was certainly a bad addition.

Even though they don't bring much marketshare, I would have opted for Oregon and UW vs UC and UCF.

They weren't. They want to be here, they helped save the Big 12,
Sam Houston state wants to be in the Big 12 - should we invite them?

No. The conference does not need anymore schools in Texas. For this reason, I had doubts about Houston. It's a fine deal & was necessary at the time. It might work out for the better in the long run.

Bowlsby deserves all the wrath and hate from BU fans for his shenanigans over the years as a OUT lapdog and for stiffing BU... but the man made some very good moves (or non-moves) post-OUT. He set the stage for BY to do what he has done. I flip him off with one hand/finger and tip my cap to him with the other hand.

If you haven't heard the conversation between David, Paul, & Jason, you should. It's only 10 minutes and summarizes the situation well:

The fact that he's so careful in his words & expectations gives him more credibility in my opinion. No hyperbole or exaggeration here. He's also been quite accurate in his reporting the last couple weeks.
