Ten Things Vs. Texas State
Baylor hosted Texas State on Saturday and here are the ten things that stood out during the game.
- Stupid penalties early from the young players moved Baylor behind the sticks
- Shapen has taken too many hits from the right side of the offensive line on pass plays. It's time to try out another tackle. The left guard getting dominated as well with reaching for blocks and not setting a base.
- If you can’t trust Isaiah Hankins, who can you trust?
- Defensive line and linebackers are getting whipped up front. The defensive line also overpursuing and did not wrap up Finley
- Great drive by Baylor with Blake Shapen taking it in on a run he may not have done in 2022. Dominic Richardson had a great run in the drive to give the line some confidence. Shapen is hurt, and he might be favoring the knee a little too much for it to be a bruise
- The offense came out to play on the first drive, and the defense needs to do the same
- Unfortunately, undisciplined defensive play continues in the second half. Linebackers and safeties making poor reads on play action and mesh plays. Safeties not being able to get back and soft coverage called for the corners.
- The secondary has too much talent to play at this level
- Shapen might be done with injury, and everyone gets a view of Robertson. The brace on Shapen’s knee while he tries to get used to feeling it while warming up appears to be structural knee damage, but make no mistake this loss is on the defense and would have happened with a healthy Shapen if he comes back into the game.
- Shapen is playing like a warrior and the staff has told him to get off the field before more damage is done
- The offensive line has chased their opponent like the defensive backs have chased theirs
- It's a horrible loss, and the trajectory has been trending in the wrong direction since last season. It makes an AD get a list ready if the slide doesn’t stop
