Him and Jimmy Rogers are the two that interest me. I think Vigen might have been Josh Allen's offensive coordinator at Wyoming

Virgens are the least risky when it comes to catching an std.

He's lucky he didn't go to my school, he would have been picked on incessantly.

First of all Aranda is our HC. A couple of you folks really should realize I did not hire him nor was I consulted. I really don't care how a couple of y'all characterize my saying I hope we do not need to make a change. It is just realism to say I don't know yet how the season will turn out.

That said, since 97 I have thought Baylor needs to hire HCs with experience as HCs. You can look at my posts regarding our coaching changes going back to 98 on Austin 365 ( very early pre BFAns board) . If it is possible to research and you have all the time in the world (as some of you seem to have) please feel free to check out not just this site but archives of Austin 365 and Baylor fans if you want.

I would have preferred that Dave Aranda had succeeded as well. He's a good guy who fits Baylor's culture well in a lot of ways. But the facts are the facts.

We've lost 16 of our last 21 games, 12 of our last 14 Big 12 games and haven't beaten a P5 team at home in almost two full years. That's atrocious.

At some point, enough has to be enough. And we're probably nine months past that point.
I'm thinking Mack believes Aranda missed out on recruiting/NIL opportunities and that if they just get solid recruits then he can forge a winning program in a couple of years.

But in reality, these players aren't being coached well.

Aranda has had one player drafted to the NFL, and that was a player that he brought over from LSU.
HE has no clue on developing players.

I can't think of anyone to suggest, so I'll just lament that we didn't hire Cignetti, who has Indiana at 6-0 right now..

Yep, Cignetti is awesome. Last year was a much less competitive coaching market than this year will likely be. There are good candidates, but we need to think outside the box a bit and be willing to take a chance. My favorite REALISTIC candidates in no particular order are probably the Tulane coach, Golesh from USF, Traylor from UTSA, Jimmy Rogers from South Dakota State, and the Montana State coach

My hallelujah candidate is Chadwell, but that is a pipe dream

The possible competition:

Florida, Arkansas, North Carolina.

Mack Brown in his 70s, the Tar Heels are 3-3. I'd be surprised if he doesn't retire this year.

Pittman might have bought himself some time with Arkansas upsetting Tennessee, but even if they fire him they may just end up promoting their once and future head coach Bobby Petrino back into the position. So they may not be in the market. Petrino has clearly learned his lesson: don't wreck your Harley with your 25 year old girlfriend on the back. So has Arkansas: don't fire your most successful coach since Gran...sorry, Ken Hatfield.

Florida is 3-2 with losses to Miami and A&M. Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, and Ole Miss lie ahead and they could easily go 1-5 or 2-4 against that gauntlet. 1-5 knocks them our of bowl eligibility. 2-4 still leaves the door to the futiliy bowl open with a season ending win over the Noles.

So I'm guessing UF and UNC will be picking ahead of us in the head coaching draft.

Cignetti checked almost every box I could think of. He has a lot of HC experience, success at every stop, can spot and develop talent and his staff has been with him for a while.

I haven't seen an update from the OP in a while, but it looks like he's put in most of the suggestions from people. Seems like the upcoming coaching pool for this offseason is slim pickings if you ask me.

Not saying he is my choice because I know nothing of him, but what about Jimbo Fisher.
Is he overrated, too old, not successful??

Baylor cannot afford him and I doubt ANYONE at Baylor wants an Aggie reject

Oh God no. I might just quit Baylor football at that point.

He's not only a mediocre (or worse) head coach, he's a total *******. I don't want that guy anywhere near our program.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just guessing of course. My most likely
1) Barry Odom ( didn't they cross paths at Missouri
2) jeff Traylor
3) Rhett Lashlee (who may be waiting on Arkansas where he played)

And we all know, it may be who will work the cheapest.

Add GJ and remove Rhett. I don't think he will leave SMU for Baylor now that they are ACC.

Why is Jamey Chadwell rarely ever mentioned as an option? Is it because of his offense? Is it because of his ties to Ian McCaw? I don't understand

Keep your eyes on Dan Mullen. There are connections within Pat Neff and that's all I'll say.

He reportedly wants back into the SEC, but it looks like he will have to go in another direction before that can be achieved so whether you like him or not, be ready for that name to come up.

Agreed on Lashlee. He has no reason whatsoever to leave SMU for Baylor.

I don't think Kinne will be considered, however. HIs handling of the Jayden De Laura situation is disqualifying. With its recent history, Baylor can not (and should not) assume that risk.

I'd be happy with Mullen. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if he was hired.

Dan Mullen was a shoe throw away from having that Florida team in the hunt for a legit playoff spot. Florida has been a disaster in his absence.

I think Dan Mullen is a good coach. But I also think he'd be a short-termer. And as much turnover as we've had since 2015, I'd prefer someone who wouldn't be a threat to leave for the SEC after every successful season.

UF can't afford anything short of a splash hire. The AD has to hit it out of the park on this next hire. Everything is on the table, from coach Prime to Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. My point is that none of the candidates that Baylor has a realistic chance to land are anywhere in the top 10 for UF.

UNC almost certainly gives a look toward Dallas and Rhett Lashee, but my guess is that generally the same holds true for the candidates that UNC would prefer. Probably the top 5 picks are people who wouldn't leave for Waco.

If TCU fires Dykes, and or UNC poaches Lashee, Baylor will be picking third behind TCU and SMU.

I think most should be thrilled with him, but if he wants a blue blood gig, he's in a pretty good spot where he's at. Liberty pays him like a P4 coach, they have a lot of nil money relative to their competition, and he can bide his time playing weak competition until something he likes becomes available

Mullen had to figure out how to win in Starkville. I think he'd do really well here. But I also think he'd be up and out in 3 years or so just like Rhule.

Barry Odom would be great and i'm sure he knows Mack from Mizz. Hopefully he likes Mack.

Jon Sumrall would be my other pick. He has Tulane rolling.

Agreed. I think we need a person who has Texan roots and would be nice to have if they also had Baylor roots. I feel like everyone former coaches who were super high profile will treat Baylor like a rehab/stepping stone.

Any coach that consistently wins at Baylor is going to be approached by Blue Bloods. We seem to do better with ambitious coaches that have big aspirations anyway

Do folks even check the records of these folks. Odum is a flash this particular season at UNLV this particular 4 games in. However at the P4 level he was about like we have been over all with Aranda. Herman is 6-11 at FAU. Anthony Lynn is a position coach basically in the NFL. We shouldnt and wouldnt gamble with that type of move again.

Ever since 1997 I have been rather opposed to going with one without HC experience. However the only person without HC experience I might consider and may consider a good hire is current Seahawk OC Ryan Grubb. He may be one of these offensive geniuses we like so much that is out there kind of under the radar. I think the only reason he is not the Bama OC right now is because he stayed behind and thought he might get promoted to HC at UW. He was successful as an OC as well with QBs other than Penix.
Check the records? HC experience? Odom did OK at Arkansas - - have the past coaches at Arkansas done better? They've fired countless coaches in a row. It's a hard place to win and the SEC West has been impossible for years. Odom is a high character guy with ties to this part of the country. UNLV hasn't had a coach with a winning record at the school since 1981.

Anthony Lynn. Did you even check his record? He's from Texas, has been an NFL head coach, and is currently doing pretty well as OC of the Redskins.

Tom Herman because Mack knows him, he was successful at UH and Texas, and he hadn't been named.

I think you need to understand how this works!
