It's pathetic that the media has made this guy out to be as bad as Jerry Sandusky considering he has been exonerated by Baylor AND the NCAA after years of investigations into the "rapes" on campus. The only credible case was Tevin Elliott and he was swiftly dealt with as soon as allegations were made. Sam U and Oakman were both found not guilty in trial and the other cases were unsubstantiated. Briles kicked off two of our best WRs for marijuana and yet rape is okay? The whole thing was a complete character assassination and the media and the masses had no interest in the truth. They just went along with the narrative that Briles was the biggest, willingest rape enabler in the history of sports. Joe Paterno didn't even get it this bad.
Working off this post.. in the final aftermath, who else was found not guilty or cleared.. was chafin in that group as well? Just wondering if anybody else besides tevin was convicted and i thought Sam U got convicted, just asking for clarity but dont want to dig up an long discussion to go back down this road

As far as I know, the only conviction that stuck was Tevin. Sam U was originally convicted, but overturned on appeals.
And Shawn Oakman was falsely accused and it cost him an NFL career.
Being acquitted does not necessarily mean someone was falsely accused.

Weak point. Being acquitted is usually all you can hope for after you're falsely accused.

Faux outrage by media and Twitter trolls. Gotta love it.

No OU fan gives a **** about Briles being on the sidelines. No OU players gives a ***** They just want to win.

Venables had a chance to stand up to the media and he chose to be a pansy about it. This is not national media, it's local.

It's a shame the media didn't do its job when Mixon punched that girl, or OU players were robbing students, or when the car dealership was paying players.

Zero U acting the way they are about this is laughable. Let's not forget they idolize Barry. Multiple stories available about his escapades there. Oh yeah what about the stories about the OU president. How about the Mixon incident.. I can go on and on. OU get off your high horse and shove it. Art Briles is a good man and got thee shaft.

Just remember... your beloved university did this to art. They scortched him, they let it become a wildfire, they went midevil. The damage was beyond recovery and a f1ck1ng letter quietly releasee years after wasnt going to clear his name. Litterally no one knows about it and his name is now mentioned with some of the worst atrocities in the modern sports era. He might have well been best friend with epsteins and killed a panda bear with a blunt hatchet in a tiktok reel.

Smdh

Baylor did this. Which is why after all these years this is what happens. Karma is a nasty b1tch and bu is now in the toilet.

2,666 days and counting since Art himself left us with a raging fire.

Art brought this all down on himself, Baylor, Waco, you, me and everyone affiliated with the program. He let the lack of true discipline fester and grow and poison us all. His management style (lack of) when bringing in players with known issues tainted all of the W's.

Everybody in America knew Baylor was a different school with different rules and regulations. Evidently nobody told Art.

I blame Ian first.

I blame Art second.

The Journal-Constitution reported in June that 11 players during Smart's tenure were permitted to remain on the team after women reported violent encounters with them to the school, police or both. The report mentioned that one player, who was charged with recording a sex act with an unconscious woman, stayed on the roster for a full season before transferring. Other transgressions include players' threatening their girlfriends and sexual assault, according to the report.

Oh look, a coach handled things improperly but its ok bc UGA BOR would never do to him what Baylor did to Briles.

Damage control 101. They did not enjoy the task at hand but did what needed to be done.

Again, Art created it, lit the fuse and watched it from afar not realizing how big this was going to get. Ian should have set Art down when the first puff of smoke started rising from the program and reviewed with Art the difference between Baylor and UH.

Hell, even I knew the difference as an 18 year old recruit.

The thing is at this moment in time there are young men and adult faculty and staff at colleges treating young women in a way I wound not want my own son to behave. (He's a D1 athlete 1,800 miles from mom and dad)

That's why I don't have any issue with Briles working again, even at Baylor. We and 4,000+ other universities have a cultural challenge. Can't fix that by firing someone every few years.

I agree that Baylor is different all right. Whether it had been Art or any other coach in America who had experienced something like this at Baylor, we can trust that Baylor would try to save its own reputation no matter how many reputations it needed to destroy to do so. In that regard, Baylor is certainly different.

But it wasn't really Baylor. It wasn't the executive management of the university itself. It was a handful of board members that got everything to where it is

Meanwhile the Florida States of the world can play heisman candidates credibly accused of sexual assault with no outrage or lasting fallout.

I still don't understand how Briles is the poster child for a tainted coach when he likely did things, albeit in a broken system, way better than most.

Seriously get over yourself and your time at Baylor. Let it go. Stop living in the past.

Also, stop being so nave to think that Baylor is so high and mighty about rules. You act like Briles was running a program where players were running wild doing all sorts of bad things when it was a few players that were accused of some things and only 1 was found to have done it and he was kicked off immediately.

The BOR made this way worse than it should have been. They have caused this problem.

But you defend them because it gave you a few more years to brag about the "best" season by the team you were on (even though that has been surpassed now).

Get over myself? Living in the past? Not sure how you came to that conclusion just because I tell the truth.

Art himself characterized some of his boys as "bad dudes".

Records are made to broken. I was fortunate to have played on the first 10 win Baylor team when you only played 11 regular season games. I was and remain proud of that fact and when challenged I will defend that season as one of our greatest - Top 5. I've never had any problems with 11 or 12 or even 13 win seasons. I've been there yelling for the Bears to win 10+ every year.

Somehow I still show up in the Baylor record books and now have been inducted into the Baylor Hall of Fame. I'm not very smart but do know a little bit of football slightly above the normal Baylor grad.

A nut? Why so generous?

I promote my TEAM of which I was a fairly important part of all day and night. I don't have to belittle you robe clutchers. You do yourself a disservice without my intervention. Oh yeah......2,667 days since self-induced implosion. See above post for a little bit of bragging.

Schools I turned down:

Texas (first to offer by Darrell Royal & then again by Fred Akers)
A&M (by Emory Bellard)
UH (by Bill Yeoman)
TT (by Steve Sloane)
Rice (by Ray Alborn)
SMU (by Ron Meyer)

That's a good enough rant for today. By the way Art showed me around when I visited UH in late 1976 the first night I was on UH campus. He took me to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a UH basketball game and a keg party in Wilson Whitley's room.

Art's running the score up on powerhouses like the Wofford Terriers, NWestern State, Buffalo and other wards of the state did not do him or our program any favors nationally.

His and the players arrogance when talking to the media did nothing to help either.

In 2013 we beat Iowa state by almost 70 points. Beat OU by 30.

Those ain't no woffords.

And as for as the players and the media…well all I can say his it made Baylor hip and cool among urban/rural youths (non-rich kids) for the first time in probably school history.

Around that time i was living back at home and I went to a alumni/booster fried chicken dinner thing for my high school football program and some of the kids there (poor east Texas high school) were talking about how cool Baylor was after they saw my hat.

That never happened before.

I'm not here to get likes.

The truth sometimes hurts.

All I know is that I've had multiple folks deep inside the Baylor program say my words hurt many folks but they were the truth.

I don't like it but why live in a fantasy world? I know success after Steele, Morris and others was a drug Baylor folks had never had pulsing in their pencil neck veins. Limp wrists united and started kicking some sand in bullies's faces for the first time ever. It felt good. So good in fact some Baylor "boys" grew a pair and started talking big at Sunday school in Dallas, Houston and Austin.

I know I did. However, I recognized the smoke and the talk around Waco was concerning. It went unchecked. It got us what we sowed.

It did not have to happen. Ian could have stopped it. I think. He did not possess a thick neck, manly hands, a convex chest. He did have a brown suit though and a huge Adam's apple!

How do you like that post poindexter?
