This is a fair assessment. He was a stellar DC at MTSU and Miss St. Had a very good season at Texas before being fired and returning to Miss St and then did a good enough job at Miami to replace Richt as head coach. Had a winning record at Miami just didn't beat Clemson and win the ACC.
Not like South Carolina hiring Will Muschamp as it's HC the other year.
That one did not make much sense.
College doesn't seem to repeat failed head coaches as much as the NFL does where the same guy gets job after job and fired 3, 4 or 5 times before teams stop giving them another chance.
In college you might get a second or 3rd chance but that is it. And usually that second chance is if you were at a top P5 school and move down to a G5 school. Or occasionally from a top P5 to a lower P5.
Like:
Terry Bowden
Kevin Sumlin
Frank Solich
Etc.
but if you fail miserably at your first your chances are usually over unless you can spend the next decade as a good coordinator and then get a shot at a smaller G5.
