Possibly.

Since the AAC is all the rage and UTSA Tulane and SMUs coaches are hot properties.

I haven't seen a mention of Ryan Silverfield at Memphis. Pretty good resume.

Sorry - where's the train station in Waco? I got Dave in the car with me since we just left Two Minnies - He sent me a text last night asking a weird question on strategies for how to score this weekend........When I gave him my initial thought, he said Mack said the same thing - so off we went.

I thought the one-armed stripper burnt that place to the ground.

Traylor is a no until he proves he can win big next year, with a new QB.

-He's had the same QB his entire time at UTSA (20-23) - QB Frank Harris.
-Harris has been at UTSA since 2017 and is 24 years old - in his final year (7!) of eligibility.
-UTSA's #1 WR Josh Cephus (Harris' favorite target) has been playing since 2019 and runs out of eligibility this year (2023)
-Neither Harris nor Cephus were recruited by Traylor
-Traylor is something like 1-5 when QB Harris isn't starting.
-Traylor is 0-3 in bowl games.

Having the same starting QB and #1 WR for 4 years is unheard of and has to be a wonderful security blanket. I want to see how UTSA does when they have a new QB for the first time in +6 years. Then, we'll know if Traylor can actually develop a QB or just lucked out with a guy who got 7 years of eligibility. I do lean towards Traylor being good, because 2 guys don't make a team. I haven't had time to really examine their roster to see how many super seniors they are riding on.
Makes sense.

You know - the timing may work out to be great on this one. Traylor leads UTSA to a good/great season next year and we fire Dave next fall...

Can some of our big money guys start paying him to stay at UTSA another year as has been speculated that ut has been doing to keep him there in case Sarc leaves.

I hiughly doubt that, Horns are alreadyt up in the top 3 of the conference. Aggy has their daddy back too.

Unfortunately, timing seems to be everything. wHorns and Sark, recruiting and NIL are peaking, Saban is coming to the end of his career, Kirby and his recruiting are showing they can be beat (their year wasn't their best), the rest is just like any other conference... a jimmy this year, a johnny next year, etc. etc. Oh, aggy will continue to be aggy. Bama, GA and wHorns will be the Top-Tier. It's going to be hard to live in TX if you aren't a wHorn fan.

Much worse living with those dipsh*ts here in Austin. They are insufferable and I dread having to listen to their BS tomorrow morning around the office.

One more time... hoping Bama and Saban will humble them, wrong choice of words they're never humble. Humiliate them. I can dream.

Have you seen their easy schedule? They literally have 7-8 guaranteed wins. The toughest game they play, Georgia, is at DKR. 9-3 at worse.

W - Colorado St
? - @ Michigan - Not sure who returns for them
W - UTSA
W - ULM
? - Georgia @ DKR
W - Piggy - In disarray as a program
W - Aggy - Average as usual
? - OU - Will be starting a new QB
W - Florida - In disarray as a program
W - Kentucky - Have they ever been good?
W - Miss St - In disarray as a program, as usual
W - Vanderbilt - Have they ever been good?

Likely the real "entitled" ut returns once they have a good year.

I don't have much experience with the entitled ut crowd. I have some friends who graduated from there, but they aren't much into sports. I have skimmed their fan board and like most fan boards, they have a good # of posters who are delusional. Nothing like aggy though - they are the king of delusional

About every 5-6 years they pop back up, mostly irrelevant otherwise. Hopefully SEC humbles them.

I'm scraping my finger nails on a chalk board with one hand sticking a fork in my eye with the other as I say this… I'm scared they're up for a successful run, for a while, from the get go. Seems all things are pointing that way. HATE it!!!

I think that is a valid concern. It may be similar to Jameis Winston/Jimbo, Manziel/Sumlin, Burrow/Orgeron where a great QB makes their coach look great.

Now that Traylor no longer has his 7-years-of-eligibility QB and 4 year starter at WR (among other super seniors), UTSA is looking like ass. They can't move the ball and they just got completely smoked by TX ST.

Kind of reminds me of a certain coach who inherited a 11 win team and then won 3 games 2 years later once all of the key players ran out of eligibility

Mack won't be there when it all happens. He will not get the chance to fire Aranda and pick Aranda's replacement. Livingston will probably promote Overshown to AD in our final act of self immolation for the Briles years allowing her to fully tank the program and brand.

I have been concerned that she is the heir apparent. Too much similarity to how Stanton was given a great deal of authority as just the marketing guy and then the big switch Ellis (our first career athletic department andminstrator) out Stanton in. The similarities would not end there if it happens. She would be a very Stantonesque hire for the position.

That all said, I realize some of y'all are always wanting to scream hyperbole and to slit your wrists over every first down an opponent makes, I'm not yet convinced a change is coming or merited yet.

As to the topic of Traylor. UTSA just lost 49-10 to TSU. I'm kind of reminded of Chad Morris.

Texas State did so with a guy that just put up a 93 QBR outing. Decent ROI for Kinne with only using $40K in NIL. That $750K NIL used of Finn is nuts.

Texas State actually had UTSA's 7th yr QB Harris on campus in 2016 with an informal visit but ultimately never made an on offer and the rest is history. Huge whiff there by the previous staff..

Yeaaaahh i'd still take Traylor in a heartbeat. Kinne from Texas state is also intriguing. If not them, some other established coach that has shown he can build a roster. Would also like a coach that has a little more fire and personality. I am one of those guys that thinks that players take after their coach, and without dogging on Dave's personality too much, I'm just gonna say that's an issue. Like, I don't want a drill sergeant, but I don't want a neuro divergent philosopher type either

I'd need to see him find success (+9 wins), post Harris-and-gang before I'd be on board. Especially with the B12 taking most of the AAC's best teams.

We are early in the season so we'll see how they do, but so far I'm not impressed.

It wasn't just Harris that they lost. They've lost a ton of skill talent the last three years.

It's Traylor's job to replace it, but this was likely always going to be a rebuilding year. There aren't many G5 programs that can graduate what UTSA has the past few years and keep the train rolling without a hitch.
PartyBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
My understanding is that a UTSA player got in Sark's face on their sideline and started yelling at him at some point of the game. If true that is incredibly undisciplined in addition to the apparent decline. I'm in the no thanks category if we need to make a change. At the end of last season he was who I thought we should get but I was also getting a sense of uneasiness as to why a growing list everyone else in Texas he was interviewing with over the past couple of years went another direction at the same time.

IMHO, we are not going to be able to find a unicorn head coaching candidate that checks every single box. Chadwell at liberty would be my first choice, but we ain't getting him. Just the reality of where our program is at. And remember, they all have to pass the Baylor squeaky clean PR litmus test. I think a guy like Traylor or Kinne is about as good as we can hope for, though I have no clue if either would even be on Mack's/whoever is making the decisions radar.

Traylor would be a possibility but I can say with 100% certainty from knowledge of several within Pat Neff that Kinne will not be on Baylor's radar. You don't even need to waste your time speculating on him.

Yep, it goes back to what I said about having to pass Baylor's squeaky clean, youth pastor vibe that they seem to be targeting post-Briles. I'm being a bit facetious but y'all get the point
